Chasing my tail? 6.5x55

I was getting sub 1" groups and sometimes better with my COAL at 3.070, but hated the bullet hanging so far out of the case. I loaded some at 3.00 today which put the bullet base almost to the neck, shoulder junction. Accuracy stayed the same. I decided to just leave well enough alone. Its not a bench rifle and sub 1" groups will work just fine. Thanks to all for the helpful comments.
What other powders do you have to try ?

My suggestion here would be to purchase a borescope. Then you would have a much better idea of what is going on inside the chamber and throat of this barrel. Inexpensive borescopes are available in the $50-$60 range, and can facilitate other shooting-related uses such as inspecting brass cartridges for incipient casehead failure in addition to the intended use as a borescope. It is a useful tool to have around.

I had it scoped The barrel looked fine. Nice sharp rifleing and a hint of copper fouling. My fault there, just didn't give it a good scrubbing.

I went to Varget and a 120 grain Pro Hunter. Results were very good with consistent 3 shot groups in the 1/2-5/8 inch groups at 100yds. Good enough for me and this old Mauser. I'm only loadinf 38 grains but the accuracy is good enough to hunt with if it ever see's deer woods and most my shots are usually very close as I hunt heavy woods.
