Chargemaster scale wandering

With this scale, I assume zero should not be relied on at an extreme edge of travel (raw zero). long ago I added a weight to the tray so that zeroing occurs at a range I can picture(in my mind) as more linear.
Have never had a zeroing issue with this. I have still seen a tiny bit of wandering after taking a break/delay. But this takes way longer than normal use rate for my charging. Of course a slightest bump snaps it right back to zero.

What is the purpose of the straw ?

Most of us reload in the same area with the same lights on , I'm sure if his cell phone was close to the scale and it bounced around he would have figured it out in a short time . It's something going on inside the 1500 if it happened an by recalibrating it went away that's fine . When it happens over an over when it never happened before something wrong. When it at a point you have to buy a new one , open it up , clean it out it can only get better .

What is the purpose of the straw ?

A piece of McD's straw, it seems the straws from McD's is the perfect diameter, in my CM helps the powder continuously flow out the end smoother. Some powders will sometimes want to kind of stack up then drop to much and you get an over weigh.

I don't think it's dumping to much , it's when the charge is in the pan it doesn't settle down on the weight , could happen with just the pan . For accuracy some go a half a grain less and trickle the rest . I don't think that's the problem.

B23 nailed it on the straw.
You don't have to trickle separate. The CM has it's trickle mode, and regardless of CM scale accuracy, dispensing will stop on single kernel accuracy (at the tuned rate). Truly, with all scales, it helps to know HOW to get the best from them.
I learned this using a more accurate scale. Once learned, I didn't need another scale. I know how to operate my CM.

Reply from RCBS a couple of years ago. I adhere exactly to their instructions:

Chuck,
We don't recommend leaving your ChargeMaster left plugged in and turned on as it leaves it susceptible to power surges. We don't specifically advise against it in our instruction manual, but better safe than sorry. Also, along the lines of keeping your ChargeMaster ready to use, do not leave powder stored in the hopper as it will adhere and etch the plastic. It sounds as though you are following the instructions correctly. Hope this helps and thanks for contacting RCBS!

I had the same problem with an 8 month old unit. I called RCBS and was told my warranty had expired two months prior and that RCBS would neither fix it nor ship a new unit. I returned the unit to Brownell's for a full refund. This was about two years or so ago.

I have not purchased, nor intend to purchase, any product made by or through RCBS again.

Mikecr:
Could you explain further? Or point us to the information?
Always wanting to gain knowledge...

My experience echoes that of Mike's. ITs ALL ABOUT THE TRICKLING. Besides the straw, inserts are available, and I found best results using the tip from a ball point pen. Something to alleviate the dropping of clumps, and provide a finer stream. Also adjust the parameters for slower trickling. Insure absolutely no vibration during trickling. For me these gave +/-.03 5gr on the CM.

Then the problem is these mods yield very slow charging, so I only use for larger charge weights whereby I have time to seat a bullet well before entering the trickle mode.

I guess if you live in California you’d have to have one smuggled in

I found not laying the the the power supply to close and over head light is best led light
