Changing stocks on a Savage

I just got my McMillan stock this weekend after a nine month wait. My question is can I just swap it out with the laminate stock thats on my Savage model 12F or does it have to be bedded ? I checked the fit and the barrel does not touch the forend. For what the McMillan cost I was hopeing it would be a drop in.

Put it in and try it. You will love your new McMillan!

My experience is that no mater how well made a stock is, it really needs to be bedded using the exact action that you are using as their always are some very small production variations.

Doing a light skim bedding is all it takes and is really easy and all told tales less than a couple of hours to do and lasts a lifetime.

There just isnt a one size fits all stock, they need to be bedded for a 100% fit to your action...

Thanks for the help, I should have known better but with the

the cost of everything lately I was hoping to sneak one by.The

other reason is my gunsmith said he would be glad to do it but

wanted to let me know he has five hundred guns ahead of me and

is'nt taking any new work on until the first of march.
