Changing from Sendero .300WM

Well, i've had a .300 WM Sendero for some time and used it well but I feel i want something new.

My options are

1. Sell the rifle which is a Remington Sendero and start new again.

2. I have been thinking of a 7mm WSM which would mean getting a new rifle or possibly a new rifle and re-barrel it.

3. Rebarrel the sendero into either a 7mm Rem Mag or a 7mm STW

Basically i am a fan of the 7mm family but i have also looked at getting a .260 AI

The purpose of my rifle is 'F' class shooting however i do hunt wit it shooting goats and have shot out to 1350 metres on goats.

What are your thoughts guys?

I vote for number 3.

"3. Rebarrel the sendero into either a 7mm Rem Mag or a 7mm STW"

I would buy a new custom barrel and rebarrel the Remington.
Just about any custom barrel you buy would be better than the one you'll get when you buy another factory rifle.

The Sendero couldn't be re-barreled for the 7mm WSM?

Might consider sticking with the .300 WM, it still does a fine job in competition, although it is a lot more cartridge than needed for punching paper. Any of those magnum cartridges are on the heavy side for F-class competition, or they would be at our local club where the various 6mm & 6.5's seem to rule, with a few .308's thrown in for good measure.

Remember, you get no muzzle brake, and you have to lay there and shoot 60+ accurate rounds downrange during the course of a typical match.

Regards, Guy

If the primary function is F-class sell your sendero and start over you are on the right track with the 260AI caliber however if it were me I would lean hard toward either a 6mm br with a tight twist barrel, 6.5x47, or 6.5x284 depending on distance you are shooting nothing wrong with 260AI except brass options and fire forming
just my $.02 worth

I have learned, more than once, that duel purpose, do not work very well. F-class shoots 22 round for each target,3 to 4 target per shoot. Shoot your WM and see how your shoulder feels.

I shoot a 7 short WSM, in F-Class. I went to Nationals, in Rotan,NM, last year. Shot a 6x49, like a 6x47, last year at 600, in the wind did not do to well. Shot the 7 at 1K and managed to win one match, and my scores were much better at 1K than 600.

The 6.5x284 look to be the most popular and it's is also popular in 1K BR.

So I would suggest building a new gun for F-Class. I don't know what class you want to shoot. If F-TR you have to shoot 223 or 308, only. If F-Open, anything. If you go F-Open I would suggest at least a 6.5 or more and as heavy as you can make it, but not over 22lbs. I like the 6.5x284 or a 7 RSAUM or 7 WSM. As you can see I like the 7MM also.

I would build on your current gun, get a good 28" barrel in 7mm 1-8 twist to shoot the 180 Berger's and chamber it in 7mmWSM, it will work better from a long action than a short action especialy with the long VLD bullets, you should be able to get the 180gr Berge to at least 2800 fps that combined with the realy high BC would make a very good LR gun and not beat you as bad os the 300 does now.

You already have to major investments, a good action and a good stock.
If it were me I'd have the action blueprinted and a new over sized bolt from PT&G fitted this with a high quality barrel should having you shooting well under 1/2 moa
