changing calibers on savage f class rifle

if you have a savage f class 6mmbr norma &want to screw a 7mag barrel on itall thats involved is changing boltface &headspacing am i right or wrong as im not very familiar with savages any info from the savage shooters appreciated thanks alan.

Go with a .284 win and don't wory about the bolt face. I am not to familiar with the Savages, but I understand it is a simple, do it yourself process.

As long as it is a long shank barrel, all it takes is a head space gauge, a barrel nut wrench and an action wrench. The magnum bolt head will need to be installed also. I would second the .284.

not true. the bolt head of the 6mm is .473, the bolt head of a Mag. is .532

you will need to buy & switch bolt heads

Make sure the "new" replacement barrel is a LARGE SHANK, and yes you need a bolt face for Mag. cartridge wit a Go & No Go guage.

No, he won't.

The .284 Win has a rebated case head, and uses a standard .473 bolt face, same as the 6.5-284 - which is probably why the poster recommended it.

I should have replied to the orginal post , & not the not the second. my mistake. ::)

the orginal question was "screw on a 7 mag barrel", not any thing about another caliber.

what I posted was correct to the orginal question. you need to change bolt heads.

if the shooter63 decides on going with a different cal. choice then a mag, then your post is correct
