Based on fired cases my LRPV neck has a slight taper. They indicate an inside diameter of 0.272" near the shoulder, and 0.270" near the mouth.

Ron, is it normal to have a taperd chamber like that?

I really don't have the experience to know. The 6BR Norma is dimensioned to a European CIP standard. The CIP standard dimensions allow for a 0.0012" taper. The PTG reamer that was popular for the old cardboard box Lapua brass has this taper in it, and goes from 0.270" at the shoulder to 0.2708" at the mouth. See drawing below. It appears the reamer Savage used on my gun is very close to the CIP standard but is slightly tighter at the mouth end. Their intent may have been to produce a CIP minimum chamber, and what I am seeing is production tolerance, or even more possible, my measurement error.

I can only guess as I am not a machinist or gunsmith, but it may be that it is good to have a slight taper in a high production reamer to prevent chatter, and that is the reason.

The good news is that Savage is obviously not making the chamber way over minimum, like many production chambers.
