Id like to see a forum for each, .17, .20, .22, .6mm, .25, 6.5, 7mm, .30, 8mm, 338, .375, all others...

That way specific caliber information is kept in each forum.

Separating by caliber never made sense to me. Maybe for the huge stuff, but otherwise it’s all just reloading.

This would make sense when thumbing through threads for info. Would also help to keep calibers organized properly since there would be no guesswork on where a person should post. The search function sometimes leaves a little to be desired when key words dont match like you thought they would.

Of course this would also mean a lot more work than what the administrators are planning so not sure if it would be worth it in that regard

I always thought it was kinda of funny reading/contributing to 6.5 Grendel threads in "big stuff". Here are my thoughts:

  • Get rid of "big stuff". Split it up into "Magnums" and "non-magnums"
A big stuff that includes 7mm and up is still going to catch stuff like 7mm-08, 308, 7.62x39, 300 blackout... these are not big cartridges and seem odd in the same place as a 300WM and a 338LM. I would break it down like this: If it has a magnum bolt face or larger.. it goes to magnums. If its less, but bigger than a 6mm, it goes into non-magnums/medium cartridges. If you really want to go with diameter then I would still split with 6.5s-7s in the "middle tier" and the "big tier" be 30 cal and up.
  • New Category for PRS style shooting is a good idea
  • I feel like ELR is really starting to take off. There may not be much traffic now but keeping it by itself would put you ahead of the curve.

I really hate change when things are working good, which it seems to be here. I turn off the update future on my computer, because I don't want changes. I HATE it when my phone updates and removes or alters features that I have learned to like. It's great here.
If you have to change (remember it will be a TON of extra work for you), I'll be sad, but who am I?

Maybe adding a different search bar as I’ve seen some comments about how it currently doesn’t come up with the results you might want. A google site search works awesome. Or you can do it yourself. For example type this is in any search engine search bar:

Site:accurateshooter.com .308 load data

This will give you results only from the accurate shooter forum.

FORUM BOSS: The forum search function is just that -- a search of the entries in the Forum database for Forum posts and threads. The Bulletin and the main site are completely, totally different Wordpress databases.

Just click on the links right at the top of every Forum page to "Accshooter Site" and "Bulletin" and you could search those.

We are considering making some changes to the Forum categories. Please note, we have been very reluctant over the years to make changes, following the philosophy of "don't mess with something that works!"

Here are the ideas.

1. Combine the general 6mm Category with 6.5 mm. (The 6mmBR family will remain separate, as that has high traffic and this site started as 6mmBR.com).

2. Make the "Big Stuff" Category 7mm, .30-Caliber, .338 and beyond.

3. Create a New Category for Field Shooting, PRS, and Similar Disciplines.

4. Merge the ELR Category into the Field Shooting Category (yep, we know this may not be ideal, but that ELR category currently is the least-used sub-Forum.) Or perhaps place ELR in "Big Stuff".

Q1: What do you think about these possible changes?

Q2: Do you have a better idea for 1 or 2 new Forum categories, or for consolidation of existing categories?

Keep in mind that we really do NOT want to have 40 or more sub-categories like many other Forums. That just complicates navigation, particularly for mobile users.
Alot to like here. The only constant - is change. Wow, when I subscribe to FB groups vs. info here on AS - a world of difference. The Daily Bulletin is alone - just amazing.
Tweak it, but pretty darn great info, knowledge base, the admin & the contributors are in sync.
