PLEASE READ Changes to Forum Categories -- Opinions Wanted

I'm fine with the proposed forum changes. Really makes no difference.

I would like to see a 'miscellaneous' section in classifieds as Dusty stated. Be nice for things like hunting packs, weather stations/wind meters, tools, etc.

Would also like to see classified prefix that states 'For Sale or Trade'

I like it simple. If you must change I suggest

1)move ELR to competition
2) don't combine rimfire and small stuff
3)add misc for sale
4) Add 25 to the "big stuff"
5) leave the 6 section alone

It’s currently a great site and I admire the desire to make it even better! I’d like to see a category that encourages discussion on building shooting positions, bench setup, trigger/recoil control, wind reading, mental preparation, etc. Admittedly more abstract topics than those focusing on the “hardware” elements of shooting, but they have at least an equal impact on results... at least for me:D!

I'd like to see a "field shooting" section.

And maybe combine the ELR with something. I read it,but think it could use a little more traffic?

Other than some minor issues with the ad section, folks abusing an otherwise great resource....... the site is pretty durn good as is. But,that dosen't mean it can't be tweaked a bit here and there.

Breaking out the prs/field/hunting from the precision benchrest shooters even in the reloading forum would be a good idea.

This forum used to have much more information about precision shooting. Now we have quite a mix of disciplines. Techniques used by benchrest shooters in shooting and reloading are not relevant in many other disciplines.

I hate to see some guy first starting out with a .223 factory rifle talking about measuring powder to the 0.02 of a grain, neck turning brass annealing etc. It is the law of diminishing returns. When he doesn't see the difference on the target what will he think then.

There is a wealth of information on this site. I have made great progress with the knowledge learned here. We just need to warn shooters not to dive down the rabbit hole until they are ready

Change the forum that has 6-6.5x47 in it to just 6x47. I think that would eliminate getting 6.5x47 threads in there.

A few suggestions.

1) Make it more clear where 6.5 x 47 topics go. At present, it can go under two categories.
2) A section on shooting skills, body position, recoil management, wind reading, target interpretation, record keeping, etc.

Perhaps my biggest frustration is finding useful information that is NOT from the position of competition. This forum IS all about precision rifles and accuracy, but that does not mean we all compete. It is not uncommon to receive advise lambasting a particular hardware choice made, because that choice cannot win or is not competitive. To me, and perhaps others, that does not matter...I am never going to compete. I do not know if there should be a section on "production rifles" or what, but even #2 above would help out competitors and non-competitors alike.

Paul, I have always been very happy with the way the site is, with that being said, I know you wouldn't make any changes without giving great thought as to how it will affect future use. I trust your judgement and can live with whatever you decide to do. Thanks for the many years of excellence and whatever changes you may or may not make, I'm sure will be with the best interest of the site and it's members. Here's hoping for many more years.

ditto.

Would be nice to see how many people are watching an item for sale.

Can we get a section for trolling Erud? It is my favorite shooting related hobby and it makes me happy.

1. Show and tell section, like personal FB pages
2. Self defense section with pistols, cause they are epic.
3. For sale section specifically for members who have never contributed one post other than sales. Must contain the words, new old stock, or looks unfired. Or Estate sale.
4. Separate AR 15 section, with a subsection for under 10" barrels.

The ELR section will grow on it's own as more get into it. It's still basically in it's infancy as far as participation, face it, it is extremely expensive. Plus it will always be a fight, a guy shoots 6000 yards, and then it becomes he took too many shots, forward spotter, or a camera. Because of coarse it should accomplished in 2 shots.
A separate PRS section, lol, more like a satellite snipers hide. Hey Bro, you try the new mini game changer? Or, "you see the new 1200.00 chassis that cost a whopping 250.00 to produce, it will land you in the winners circle for sure". Make sure we have a PRS reloading section too so we all can learn to develop loads off a chrono only, low SD equals hits.

We are considering making some changes to the Forum categories. Please note, we have been very reluctant over the years to make changes, following the philosophy of "don't mess with something that works!"

In spite of the many varied opinions and ideas I believe the bottom line should be "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"
Respectfully,
Bill

While I’m in the “if it aint broke” camp, one thing has always puzzled me:
Rimfire & Smallbore
Is this a redundant title? Are there non-rimfire cartridges that would belong in this category?

The only change to the site i would see a ton of value in, are discipline tags in the members ID box. Who is giving me this advice, a BR shooter, a PRS guy, a guy that just hunts or a multiple record holder in the class that i am asking a question about. Not that all advice or posts are not appreciated but, knowing the source may make a big difference on which direction a person decides to go.
