chamferring

I use to chamfer my cases my hand. Very hard on the fingers after more than about 10 pieces. I then bought the RCBS Trim-Mate, (http://glarp.atk.com/2011/2011_Catalogs/RCBSCatalog.pdf). It's a great tool and a fine time saver. My question is whether one should chamfer the inside surface of the case first, then the outside, or vice versa. Or does it make any difference? I do the outside first but that's only because that's where I install the rotating cutter.

It doesn't make any difference which sequence you use. It's like 6 of one, or a half dozen of the other. When I'm done I chuck the case neck into a piece of 0000 steel wool and let a powered screwdriver assist with polishing up the residual edges.

Go either way. By force of habit, I do the inside first and then the outside but it just as easily have gone the other way.
That tool works eal good if tou want to uniform the primer pockets. The fingers will get sore though. Then all that's left is ream the flash holes. Oh what fun. ::) I'm always glad when that's all done.

it may not make a difference.... but i do the inside first then the outside just in case doing the inside bells the mouth just a little and doing the outside can take care of that...... jmo

I usually do the outside first since I have to do that by hand, then I do the inside. I use a Lyman VLD tool chucked in a drill and just ever so barely touch it with the case to do the inside.

My routine as well.

I finish it off with a brass brush wrapped with 0000 steel wool chucked in the drill to polish out the minute burr that still resides inside.

I really like the K&M chamfer tool for doing the inside of the necks. There is a depth stop, so each chamfer is the same depth.

NYshooter,
On by BR stuff I do it the way ridgeway does it, K&M chamfer tool. For my hunting rifles I use the same as you do with a vld chamfer tool when done with chamfering I have two powered brushes on rcbs trim/mate. One I have 0000 steel wool wrapped on it, I polish the inside neck with it then run a clean powered brush to remove any left over debris, hope this helps.
Wayne.

I just bought a RCBS VLD chamfer hand tool. The quality of cutter is poor at best, ground with a coarse grinding wheel leaving a rough cutting surface.
