chamfer & deburring

I have always Chamfer and deburr my shell cases the first time I reload them. My question is do you have to do this? If you are just reloading for a round like 223 where semi auto used just spraying rounds down range. Accuracy is not a huge concern.

You should try it - seriously - try it and see what happens. It helps you to gain an understanding, which in turn allows you to apply discretion in deciding. It's not for all situations, but in this case, it is safe to try...

if youre just “spraying” 223 down range with an ar15 and not even trying to hit anything , it wont matter. you may have some jams you wouldnt have otherwise but thats okay as it will allow your barrel to cool a few seconds. with a “spraying” barrel to you probably have a generous chamber and wont even have many jam problems. i dont know cause i havent had a a”spraying” barrel yet but i got one on an egyptian FN 49 thats close. it even came with sand in it and a place on the stock where the camel bit it. cant really see any rifling in its bore. All this said I do hope you dont show up where I shoot on
Spray Day, but i guess you would leave me that umchamfered brass to pick up so it mite not be so Bad!! LOLo_O

PS::: Spray and Pray and have a good Day

I have never been a “Bulletsprayer” even when ammo and components were cheap and readily available!…. Now I would think it inconceivable!… but even if I was to “spray bullets” I would chamfer before seating bullets

Now Wayne::: how else are you gonna git rid of that mountain of components I know you got. LOL

I shoot competition bench rest and I don't camfer nor deburr any that don't need it.
If i wasn't competing I'd never do it. These are our toys we play with them like we want to.

I think case preparation is one of the most important things you can do for accuracy.

New brass, square and uniform primer pocket and de-bur flash hole. Trim to square the case mouth and uniform case length. Chamfer and de-bur case mouth.

After annealing: Trim case to sq case mouth and uniform length, chamfer and de-burr.

Do you just spray your rounds down range at a public range? That might look reckless and irresponsible to some. Wouldn't it be better to look the competent and professional? If you're down on the creek on private property, spray away.

Many brands of "cheap" factory ammo will shoot under 2"@ 100 yards out of msr. I don't see chamfer/deburring as apart of the production, especially the fmj lines. Skip that brass prep if you are happy with factory performance. That said you will need to clean up case mouths if you trim the brass.

Do as you please. Aside from all the above advice about boogering up your bullets, if you can feel a lip on the outside of the case mouth with a fingernail, this may leave brass in the neck of your sizing die which will in turn scratch the necks of all your brass & shorten it's useful life. The brass deposits, then scratching, always get worse... never better. It can be a bitch to clean out too. Ask me how I know.

10 at a time as fast as I can shoot which isn’t very but at any rate as fast as I can hoping I’m centered up and in the ten ring!….. at that rate it will take a lot of matches to run out lol

For me it always us important. For one thing seating bullets is much easier. You aren't at risk of jacket shaving.

I don't look upon the 223 AR as a spray gun. I've got mine down under 0.5 MOA along with a bunch of other AR chambers.

Maybe the OP doesn’t intend to use his like you use yours.

Completely unnecessary if you are just looking to throw some lead at random targets with complete disregard for accuracy
