'chambering' FL sizer dies

Just curious if anyone makes their own sizer dies. I am building a 6 Br and ordered a reamer from Manson and got the 6BR norma not Lapua reamer. Since some times there is a slight difference in the base diameter,or so I've read) i am gonna use my chambering reamer to make my FL die. Now when i run the reamer in, do I do it just as I would mathematically on a barrel? Or how much case head should I have extending past the end of the die? Thanks for the help.

You can't make a FL die from your chambering reamer, it wont size the brass. Sizing die reamers can be made to work in harmony with you chamber reamer though.

Rednek,

There is no such thing as a 6mm BR Lapua. If you look at the Lapua brand brass, it is stamped "6mm BR Norma".

Years ago there were some dimensional differences between the original 6mm BR Remington and what ended up as the 6mm BR Norma. Highly unlikely you will find anything made currently that conforms to the Remington dimensions.

Get a 6mm BR Norma full length or body sizing die from Redding and don't look back.

rednek:

A sizing die squeezes the brass down about .002 undersized then the brass springs back. Your chamber reamer would not cut a small enough hole to size the brass any.

If you know what you are doing you can make a very good seating die and a shoulder bump/neck sizer die using you chamber reamer. But for FL sizing you'll need a proper sizer. What many shooters do is buy a body sizer, such as a Redding, and make the seater and bump/neck die as above.

A servicable sizing die can be made with a chambering reamer if you have the inside hard chrome plated but it may not be worth the trouble with all the good production dies made. It might be worth it for an obscure chamber but not the 6br norma. treeman59 ...........

Thanks for the quality input guys. I started machining on my 700 yesterday, and am paitently waiting for my sleeves to harden up so i can finish tomorrow. If all goes well, I may be able to shoot it Monday or tuesday, darn weekend shift!). Hopefully this thing goes off without any problems, as thus far its been pretty easy going for my first time. Hopefully I can have some pics up soon.
