Chambering a 30-06 barrel

I plan on building a 30-06 target rifle using a savage 110 long action. I plan on a 27" bull barrel. I want the barrel optimized to shoot 175 - 208 gr matchking/eld-m. I want the capability to shoot 1000 yards and closer.
Without any experience in 30-06 shooting 175-208 gr bullets I cannot say what OAL for the dummy bullets my gunsmith wants.
I read on line at: grantcunningham.com/2012/04/ed-harris-americas-the-all-around-30-06. It was stated the "overall cartridge length is 3.40".... This was in reference to using 180 gr and 200 gr sierra matchkings.
How much freebore is required? What is the difference between freebore and throat?
Would a PT&G 30-06 Serengeti Match reamer do the trick? Would freebore need to be added?

Build some dummies with the bullets you will be using at the length you want. But don't under any circumstances bother with a PT&G reamer. Order your reamer from someone else, Dave Manson or JGS

I have a zero freebore in my '06, but I don't plan on running anything over about 180 in a hunting bullet, maybe up to a 200 in a VLD style. A 175smk touches the lands at 3.315" overall, so I load to 3.300 with the bullet base at the neck/shoulder junction, runs through the mags great. If wanting to run the 208s and such, I would probably go for about a .100" maybe up to .135" freebore for a single shot. Also, i'd probably go for a .337" neck, depending on which brass.

Here's how the 175smk (#2275) is in the case at 3.300" and -0.015 from the lands in a zero freebore.
