chamber pressures

Hi
what would be classed as a high chamber pressure For a 6mm BR single shot my load program is telling me its a dangerous load and yet the cases show no signs of pressure. I'm only running 30.3 of varget with lapua brass with an oal of 2.263" with a 105 Amax, I no this is a safe load in my gun but because this program says it is not it has planted a small seed of doubt in my mind the pressure its telling me I'm running at is 64863 psi :-\

PS wish I'd never looked at these load programs ignorance is bliss so they say i was quite happy before i had a load program
best regards

Reloading programs have built in nannies to protect you - it's a liability thing.

That being said, many FACTORY cartridges are loaded to 60Kpsia these days and they are fine except in gas operated guns.

The second thing is that the programs do NOT give you the real pressure - they give you a pressure under a set of conditions, which your (and everyone's ) rifle do not meet.

So it is an estimate at best. They are good at determining what are the best powders based on loading density, and giving you some idea where to start.

Do what you are supposed to do - start low and work up.

thanks for the reply its put my mind at rest and as I thought in the real world build up till you hit that sweet spot
cheers

I agree with trappst. Scope mounts can somtimes be a problem also. I allways take my tools to the range after putting on a scope. after 3 shots I check the torque on all the hardware. I do this atleast 3 times. The action will heat up and move, if anything is loose your poi will change while this happens. Once your hardware is tight the poi will move alot less.

Huh???

Didn't you guys know that torquing your hardware will affect chamber pressure!! ::) I thought everybody knew that.

It's actually an inverse relationship - the more you torque the scope mounts down, the lower pressure.
