Chamber plugs

Possum Hollow used to make chamber plugs sold by Midway that allows you to soak a barrel in your solvent while standing up overnight. I had mine for ones for 22-250 and 243/308 cases for +25 years and use them on occasion to clean a really dirty barrel. Midway shows they are now discontinued. Any make an equivalent plug? Need one for a 30-06 size case.

Thanks,

Tim

If they are discontinued...get someone to turn one for you on a lathe? Guys here have lathes. Maybe someone would help you out. If not, maybe you could find a rubber stopper that would work.

May go that route. I guess I could just fill a piece of brass with epoxy and cut a small groove in it to hold the o-ring. Didn't even consider that. They were cheap so I was just surprised they are available. Thanks for the common sense suggestion. :)

How about making one out of silicone, put some mold release in the chamber, fill with silicone and stick a dowel with notches cut in it into the silicone until cured. Might work. bu I would feel safer putting a plug in the muzzle end and filling from camber end and let soak muzzle down.

I bought some plugs from a company called widget.com.......they also have aluminum spacers that I buy from them........enjoy the holidays

Consider using Wipe-Out foam. I would do one application at the range when barrel still warm, followed by a second application 20 minutes later. Then drive home with muzzle end down, with earplug in the muzzle. Rifle carried in an Airglide case (see below) which has action ABOVE the muzzle. Rod Bore Guide with sealing gaskets placed chamber end... but that was kept ABOVE muzzle. Then patch out 2-3 hours later.

This reduced the amount of brushing required by 70%.

If you stand up your barrel filled with solvent, is it chamber end down or muzzle end down? If muzzle end down, a tapered Howard Leight ear plug should work well for 22 and 6mm barrels.

Yes sir, earplugs!!! The roll-up foam type work great for this...and they will even plug a hole in your oil tank on your chainsaw to get you through the rest of the day

Just be aware that when Midway lists something as discontinued, it does not mean that production has stopped, it’s just that Midway isn’t carrying the item anymore.

Midway (and other retailers) can't "discontinue" anything (generally), as they almost never make the item and can't halt production.
