Chamber job- borescope view

Well, instead of going to my trusted gunsmith, I went to a new guy to prepare a new barrel for me. A friend of mine after 300 rounds through the barrel looked into the chamber with a borescope. Does the chamber look like a custom rifle chamber to you?

Could be. Could be factory too. What, specifically, is the issue? Sticky extraction? Poor accuracy? Oversize?
I'm seeing what appear to be a lot of inclusions in the material but it might just be carbon staining. They look to be microscopic. The throat looks decent. The face of the breech end could be smoother, though it has no effect on performance.
There looks to have been no polishing done. The shoulder area looks rough under the scope but, if the brass isn't severely flawed, it's no big deal. The shoulder area is the area most likely to pick up a chip on the reamer so this isn't surprising. WH

Man thats awful. This is why we always say usps and ups runs everywhere- just because you can use local doesnt mean you should (if thats what happened here). That is also an awful looking barrel, like a real bad factory barrel. Have you been using eliminator in there?

Yes, that's exactly what happened here:).

What is the issue? I was charged for a custom barrel and my chamber looks like... well.

It looks dirty as I’ve seen in a while, quite a bit of carbon, grease and patch fibers. There’s also signs of a donut starting.

Never really got a real good look at the throat except to say it looked fire cracked and dirty too, I couldn’t see how straight it was.

You’ve put 300 rounds on it, how’s it shoot? To specifically answer your question…yes, the finish work isn’t the best but you didn’t show me anything that says it’s a bad job…I’d lean more toward it needs a good cleaning before I went to a smithing issue.

OK the chamber could be polished a little more, but the biggest thing I see wrong with the pictures is the barrel chamber is dirty, carbon and lint everywhere. If the reamer is a little dull it will begin to tear the steel a little in the shoulder areas you see in the pictures. As far as I know this doesn't hurt performance or extraction nor does it shorten the life of your brass.

This.
Throat looks pretty concentric.
Tooling marks on the counterbore? As said could be better, but it doesn't affect how it prints at the target.
Nothing of concern to me here.
Assuming it shoots well enough, or you would've had concerns before 300 rounds were sent down the tube.

Hard to get the full picture when it's so dirty. Not the prettiest thing in the world, but from what I could see throat looks concentric. Brass coming out looking OK? How does it shoot? I would agree that it doesn't look like it was polished at all which in this case it definitely should have been. Know the history of the reamer? Making the end of the barrel look nice is all aesthetics and some people care more than others I guess.

I just did a barrel about a month ago where the reamer was a tad dull and cutting a chamber like that. When I started, I thought it was still OK till I got in a little bit. Stopped half way through, sourced a new reamer, and finished the barrel. Nothing like a brand new sharp reamer.

A Donut! Where?
