Chamber honing question

I've got a new rar remington long ranger 300 win mag. There are two spots in the chamber located at the front of the belt that gouge into a formed case or cut into a new case making extraction sticky. The raised metal is only about one 1/1000 as near as I can tell. I would like to know how I can remove this without damaging the chamber. Would a dowel of the proper size with emery cloth do the job or what would you recomend? Thank you.

If the metal causing the problem is RAISED, you're not really removing critical material to fix it, jus knocking down the raised, right? Yes, a dowel rod with about 320 grit, with the bbl in a lathe, should fix you right up.

The dowel/emery will reduce the diameter of the entire chamber which will not solve the problem because the high spots will remain higher than the rest of the chamber. To remove such a small amount of metal and restore the concentricity of the chamber, a chamber reamer can be turned by hand using some cutting oil; just be careful not to cut into the shoulder. If the reamer has a removable pilot it can be left off so the bore will not be marked.

Greg said 360 grit and a dowel and to put wd40 or croill on the cloth . It only took about 30 seconds to remove the problem. He stressed clean up. From the muzzle to keep abrasive out of the barrel and then the chamber of course. I removed the trigger for the job. I'll shoot it soon and let you know if it's good to go.

I thought this a good idea also. I don't have a reamer and I wanted to stay away from the lands.

Took it out today and fired 10 rounds. They all extracted easily and no marks on the casees.

Sounds like the reamer was throwing a burr when it cut the belt counterbore.
