Chamber flush system build log.

Just wanted to tell everyone thanks for all their input in this thread. I just completed my system but I am wondering if I really screwed up on fluid choice. I grabbed 5 gallons of Astro Cut B. I that fluid suitable or did I fail biggly?
I beleive this is what Dave Tooley uses? Possibly calls it Astro Swiss I believe?

I think they are two different products after further research.
It is two different products. Tooley uses Astro Swiss HD MV. Monroe has or did have a good tech support team that was easy to get ahold of. I’d call or email and ask them what they think. Back when Tooley used the LV at some point it became only available in 55 gal drums. That’s when people switched to the MV that was available in 5 gal buckets. I talked to Monroe tech at the time and they said for this application the MV would be comparable to the LV and would work just fine. No idea how the B product would work. I suspect it’ll be fine but ask Monroe.

I guess I could chuck up a barrel and just find out.

I've been using Astro Swiss HD MV with a little ATF mixed in for all my cutting operations. Good stuff.

@spennebake - I talked to Monroe a when I started this project and asked what coolant they'd recommend for a hobby shopper concerned about rust/corrosion in hidden places... They recommended Astro Cut B.

Reason for adding the ATF? I use this stuff as well, but only for reaming and threading due to the smoke.

This is my 3rd barrel. I imagine this is the final color
I don't understand adding ATF to a water based coolant. My understanding of the use of ATF is an inexpensive way to thin an oil based coolant for better flow. Are you not degrading the water based solution in some way?

I started with Astro Swiss HD LV and they all but discontinued it. I switched over to Astro Swiss HD MV and see no difference in the performance. I see no reason to add ATF.

Adding ATF (red) to water based coolant would make a pink emulsion. If the emulsion broke in the tank, it would float on top and make your water less likely to evaporate. Astro Swiss HD MV contains chlorinated hydrocarbons and I'd be a little cautious with it's use. If high enough temperature to generate phosgene gas you might not ever recover.

JGS recommends oil based cutting fluids.
