CG Universal Trigger Issue

Found an issue with the CG Universal trigger I have on my Tikka T3 today. Very interesting and concerning problem. I seem to have run into a case of the sear not breaking when the trigger internals should otherwise cause it to do so. When I pull the trigger, it clicks through the release- something does indeed let go to get the click, but the sear does not release the firing pin. Until... the bolt is lifted ever so slightly. Then the sear is released without additional input on the trigger. Any ideas as to which screws I need to adjust? (on the trigger that is... I have already come to grips that I am a lost cause)

The first time it happened I was actively shooting, and it was surprising to say the least. Re enforces good (safe) muzzle control habits on the range- always keep it pointed downrange in a safe direction when it goes click instead of boom, because it might just go boom shortly after that.

Sounds like a trigger/cocking piece timing issue. Give Tom Myers at X-treme Shooting Products a call: he's your best source of info

I do presume there is not enough travel allowance left at trigger lever to allow the trigger sear to escape fully on release.

It is a question of pressure points adjustment.

Question however: Is your trigger set in two-stage or single stage?

Tom can fix that in seconds

Had the same issue with one of mine. It turned out that the bolt was over-rotating just a bit and that combined with the close clearance between the trigger and cocking piece would cause the firing pin to bind when I pulled the trigger. I could lift the bolt just a touch and the rifle would fire. I solved the problem by soldering a pad underneath the bolt handle to keep it from over-rotating and the issue went away. The bolt handle quit jumping when I dry fired too.

Blair,

Thank you for the advice. Most interesting. Learned something to day.

Robert,
When you've been around as long as I have you have screwed up about everything that can be screwed up. Most I've found a solution for, others I haven't :) Have a great day!!

I epoxy a leather pad under the base of the bolt handle. Seems to dampen vibrations a bit, and I pick a thickness so the handle doesn't jump when dry firing.

Excellent guys, thank you all. Clowdis, xs, your notes there are greatly appreciated- I think that's exactly the trick I'll need
