CG Mod 22 trigger: cover screw tightening causing trigger bind

I took off the cover to the CG Mod 22 trigger and when I replaced it, if I tighten the screw to hand tight, the trigger will bind and wont move. If I back it off till its slightly loose, it's fine, but then the screw loosens up during recoil. Am I missing a washer for this screw? What am I doing wrong?

Have you checked if the 2 screws assembling the upper part to the main housing are not loose?

Advise contact Tom at X-Treme.

I have a CG22 and it was hanging up--not resetting. There was an accumulation of residue, possibly from cleaning that had built up on the interior surfaces. Tom told me to flush the trigger out with brakeKleen or similar solvent. I did that but I also cleaned up the interior surfaces and then put a few drops of Kroil inside--VERY little. It is a penetrating oil and I will probably have to reclean sometime in the future. I solved my problem. Perhaps yours has a similar cause.

Thanks. I tried flushing with solvent and relubing. No luck. As soon as I tighten the screw, the cover binds the trigger lever. Its almost as if there should be a spacer/washer to allow a gap. Has anyone else seen this?

There is no washer/spacer. If you don't feel comfortable taking the trigger apart and cleaning the surfaces so there is no foreign residue in evidence then I strongly suggest you send the trigger back to Tom Meyer for repair.

PS: If you go to www.riflemansjournal.blogspot.com and look through the article index you will find an illustrated article about tuning the trigger. Each picture can be enlarged by clicking on it. The side plate has to be firmly seated and not cocked on the mounting surface. In my particular instance there was a thin film that discolored the surfaces and had to be wiped off. Solvent alone was not sufficient.

So, I completely disassembled the trigger, cleaned every surface, even polished the surfaces and made sure the cover was not cooked to one side. Still, when I try to tighten the cover screw down, it binds the main pivot arms so that it will not move. I've sent an email to Tom, but I am perplexed as to why this is happening.

Also, when I compared my trigger (what I believe to be a mod 22), it looks different from German's, in that it is a gray exterior with no markings of "mod 22.“

I have been in contact with Tom on the subject.

It is probably a lever sllhtly bent during heat treatment?. D2 tool steel is not always stable and warping can happen.

They are allC.G Modek 22, even if housings are different.

Sorry guys. Still catching up from Camp Perry. Getting so bad coming home that I'm thinking of limiting my trips there in the future.

Please send me the trigger to my PO Box. It could be a bent lever or pin. Funny that it worked prior to taking the cover plate off? In any event we'll make it right. Will turn it around in 48 hours.

Thanks

Thanks Tom! What's so perplexing is that it did work prior, although it did have a slightly sticky feel and reset. I'll get it out to you ASAP! Thanks again!
