CFE223 in 22/250

Has anyone any experience with CFE223 in they're 22/250s ? Also my 22/250 has a 12"twist ,I was shooting Sierra's new 60gr TMK and got tight ideal groups at a 100yds. On the box its says 10"twist are faster. I wonder if these bullets will group well at 200+yards ? I guess testing is only way to find out. Loads will be for PD's in MT.

You know what opinions are, so take this one for what it cost you.
There are better, long proven, powder choices for 22-250. The best I've ever used is H380. It won hands down for best velocity and accuracy in every 22-250 I've owned.
I really believe the 60TMK will be a marginal performer in a 12 twist barrel. I've had great luck with the 50 gr. BT and/or VMax.

37-39ish grains of h-380 and a Speer TNT 50 gr has been very good for me over the years .

I have a good load with CFE 223 and the 50 grain bullet in my 22-250, pushing right under 3900fps, Check out Hornady Data site for start/max loads.

My 22-250 has a 10 twist. I use CFE 223 with 60 grain Vmax and it is a deadly combination.
I normally load 55 gr Vmax but I had a supply of 60's that needed to be used up. I'll be hitting the pd towns in about a month.

CFE is very close in burn rate to H380.

I've never got past IMR 4064 in testing. 35gns behind a 55gn vmax provided absolutely incredible accuracy in every 22-250 barrel I've had. CFE223 is a bit slower, so it'll take a bit more powder. By my reloading book, it looks like 35gns might be a decent starting place with CFE223, working up to 39 or 40 for MAX.

38.5 grains of CFE223 and 52-grain A-Max bullets (near maximum so work up loads carefully) stay under .25" from a good rest in my .22/250 Ruger #1B (1-14" twist). The replacement ELD-Ms shoot pretty much the same, but I still have a good supply of the A-Maxs.

Do yourself a favor and pick up a box of Hornady 53 Vmax bullets. They shoot great in a 12 twist barrel and have a .3 BC, not much under the TMKs .323 number. You'll move them faster and probably more accurately at all ranges.

+1. I had 2 22-250's that loved this powder with 52 Sierra Match bullets. I now have a Savage in 22-250, and it does not like H380. 8208 is what I use for this rifle. But I did try the H380..

I'm sure the 60gr TMK shoots well, the MK's always do, but I'm with 284Winner and think the 53gr Vmax will likely shoot a little flatter for you and they should be very explosive on PD's.

I decided to pick some up and try in my 8 twist 22-250 AI. Super accurate. Haven't test velocity yet but from a 30" barrel, I'm sure there truckin.

Wow! 53Vmax RL17, CFE223, H414 from a 30in tube and you could very well be in the 4100fps range and with an 8tw, damn, that ought to blow the beejeezus out or chucks/ground hogs, PD's, or yotes.

I have been using it as well with great results pushing 69 gr. smk and 75 grain amax. I like it as well as 4007ssc for heavy bullets. I tried it with lighter 55 gr. bullets but 8208xbr in my case reigns supreme with lighter bullets.

My 26" 12 twist Savage likes 39 grs of CFE223 w/ 53gr Vmax's. Very devastating on gophers and coyotes!

I'm new to the 22/250 game but have some pretty good results with 38.1g of H380 and 53g Varmageddons so far at standard COAL. Savage FV12 model, bone stock.
