Cerakoting a receiver

I am wondering if cerakoting a receiver is going to effect the bedding. This is on a FTR rifle with a masterclass stock that was bedded by Alex Sitman. Action is a Surgeon 591 single shot that I believe has a NP3 type finish that is really blotchy looking. Rifle is being re-barreled by Benchmark and the Cerakote will be done by them also. Any help would be appreciated. I still have a little time left to stop the cerakoting process being done. Any other finish techniques available?

Nope.
It's insanity to think any epoxy bedding job can't/won't flex a couple thousandths of an inch- which is all the thickness of properly applied Cerakote.

I'll never risk a Cerakote finish by bedding after Cerakote if given the chance to do it beforehand.
 
Thanks for the replies. Dusty I trust your opinion and will roll with the cerakote. The NP3 coating is really ugly. Also thanks to you tobnpr. Benchmark is only going to coat the outside of the receiver and only the shroud and handle so there should be no issues in that regard(clearances). This site is the best.

My shop has been applying Cerakote for almost 6 years now.
I don't know what color your thinking of but look at the new Cerakote Elite.
It goes on even thinner than regular Cerakote but has a limited amount of colors.
My customers and I really like it.

Does it look less like krylon than regular cerakote does?

I would NEVER just chunk a cerakoted thing back into one of my bedding jobs..... First of all it would never fit, but secondly it goes on all different thicknesses everywhere. It's PAINT fer cryin' the blues! Twice't I've had them dickwads ("certified" by CeraKote, 2 different shops) thinking "It don't make no thickness" squirt the inside of actions and bugger them all up.

FOR ME..... it's just too easy to scrape out a new surface and re-skim with clear for an absolute RCH fit...... "suction bedding" I calls it.

NP3 is not a coating, and is a ROBAR trademark.
 
Cerakote does, indeed, result in a couple thousandths of an inch larger diameter when applied to a typical bolt gun receiver.

Then again, the better epoxy bedding materials still do, indeed, SHRINK a thousandth of an inch, in typical bedding.



So yeah. There's that.

I was just asking the question because I was not sure and wanted opinions. I am going with the cerakote whether I have to scrape and skim bed regardless because the receiver looks like sh%^t. I don't know what is senseless about talking it over with the AS gang. If it's too tight, I am going to have to give @alinwa a call, okay Al, you are near me right? I am five miles up the highway from Benchmark.;)

Thanks, I will look into that. The color is like bead blasted stainless.

It is a plating that does coat the surface, so I'm not sure what you're saying here. Are you saying that its thinner than "coatings" like Cerokote etc. where the surface build-up is presumably greater?

From memory from over 20 years ago when Calif. Tech Plating was first offering Nickel-Teflon they told me that they could plate up to about .001" per surface, but that the plating was more typically .0003"-.0005" in thickness unless over aluminum which required a copper flash first. At least the way they do/did it. No idea how Robar does it.

I think hes saying its like bluing and not built up on there like cerakote- its in the metal
