I used Cerakote c series for the first time and it was not as strong as I expected. I cerakoted a ruger lc9 with glacier green. For prep I let the gun soak in acetone over night, and then I sand blasted it the next morning using new 70 grit aluminum oxide. I know that is a littler rougher media then recommended. I then sprayed it using an air brush. At the regular wear points, the cerakote is wearing faster then the orgional bluing did. I can also scratch the cerakote off of corners with my finger nail. I thought this stuff would be stronger than this, unless i messed up somehow. What are your guys experiences with cerakote c series?

I use the H series and it is very tough. Apparently the c series is not fully hard for 5 days. Maybe you jumped the gun a little? Spraying with chlorinated brake cleaner will give you a squeaky clean surface to coat. Either way I don't believe the air cure should flake if applied correctly. That's all I have. Good luck!

Pretty funny coincidence seeing this thread. I just coated an action and both ends of a carbon barrel with C series Cerakote. I degreased it with brake cleaner and Emery cloth scuffed up the action. Coated it and allowed to dry for 7 days in 73° inside house temp. So far so good. No chipping or wear yet. Haven't done any shooting yet with it. I did try and see how durable it is by scratching at the underside of the action with a small file. Appears very durable. Time will tell.

I do cerakote professionally but don’t use the C series much.
Instead of brake cleaner I use denatured alcohol.
Spray on your piece AFTER hanging it but do not blow off to dry.
I place it in a oven at 175 degrees for 10 minutes to dry then let cool.
I do the oven dry instead of blowing off because unless your absolutely positive your air is dry you can contaminate your piece with a fine mist of water.
Steel will sometimes flash during oven drying but don’t worry about it.
If the finish is flaking off it’s a sign that the finish was sprayed to heavy.
And I also enhance my dry time by putting it back in a 175 degree oven for a hour or two just to jump start the dry process.

I coated my Mosin nagant today with c series blue titanium and the viscosity is no where near as thick as the glacier green I used. It actually seemed to cover the gun better. Apparently the glacier series is made for hotter temperatures then regular c series and is thicker per NIC. So maybe the blue titanium will have better scratch resistance. I will give you an update in a week. But I will say the blue titanium is a great looking color with metal flake in it.

Not to hijack this thread but I would like to know if Cerakote is good for aluminum and can Cerakote be applied in a gloss finish? I have a Ruger 10/22 receiver and would like to have it re-done in a gloss black finish...is this something that Cerakote would be a good application for? Thanks

Thanks jkohler, after posting my questions I got to googling and that is exactly the finish and number I came up with. Now to find a certified applicator close here in Indiana to get it done.

Yes, I did read up on it but I don't have a means to oxide blast it first(which seems to be the preferred method), don't have a sprayer to apply it and don't have an oven to cure it in. I did find a place fairly close that is an applicator and the cost is really reasonable and they specialize in cerakoting all types of firearms.
I've proven that. If it holds up well, I won't have it done again. I'll do it myself. My Cerakote guy passed away.
