ceracote

I've used quite a bit of Dura coat in the past & have had really no complaints but in the quest for something that might look better, I tryed some ceracote yesterday. REALLY nice looking finish. Definitely head & shoulders above the competition. Time will tell on durability but if it's half of their claims it'll be good. Wish that I had tryed it before but I needed to burn up what I had.The only drawback that I can see is the nasty odor that lingers even with decent venting.

I am interested in having some rifles done in Cerakote but just don't have the means to do it at present time. Could anyone on site recommend a source for a really good applicator and most importantly " prep work " for process ? What is the going rate for a barrelled action, maybe a stock ? Any info appreciated.

Prep is the most important ....degrease everything then blast with AO 120 Grit, warm the parts in the oven to make sure no oils are leaking from internal parts...if they are degrease again and place back in the oven...once no oils are leaking apply the cerakote then bake to your desired time. :)

signut, Prices vary. Check Cerakote web site for authorized appliers in your area. The guy near me did a barreled action, magazine tube & trigger guard & a few small pieces for $100.00... I'd have done it myself but didn't have oven large enough for bbld action. The parts need to hang on wire for good heat circulation & no marks when baking.
