Centershot Bipod Questions

Used to shoot a little F-T/R a while back with an older Centershot bipod. Did Ok but didn't spend enough time learning the technique (old sling shooter....). Starting back now and notice that the CS has a good bit of vertical play, presumably from the height adjustment parts. Does this cause problems? The rifle weighs 16+ lbs so it may not.... (Still not confident that my technique is reliable so checking all other parts of the system)

I like the ease of adjustment but wonder if the Phoenix or other similar, newer designs have a way to lock the adjustment mechanisim to avoid this vertical play?

All the center screw adjustment types have backlash. Phoenix, Centershot, Duplin. Is that the play you're talking about or are you talking about the flex\bounce in the carbon fiber legs?

I typically set the bipod by raising it up to the target. Once on target, and if the rear bag is settled, I can lock the Phoenix and it won't move until I loosen the set screw. Shooting the 308 with an unlocked center screw, it will turn and lower the POA under recoil.

Backlash is exactly what it is. Seems like it would be present with any similar design. And I do have to constantly re-adjust elevation (shooting .308), so this sounds like the culprit.....

I'll be looking for a source for the Phoenix. Seems like a popular choice for a reason....

Thanks

The new generation of Duplin has zero backlash and swivel feet. Give Clint a call. It weighs 22 oz. and can be had with a QD system.
