CED chronograph issues?

My CED M2 chronograph is acting like one of the two identical start-stop sensors has gone bad. Install them one way and get an E1 error, installed the other they give an E0 error. Running a flashlight test most often produced the same result, although sometimes it will register something in the 100-200 fps range. Has anyone ever experienced anything like this and had the cause be something other than a bad sensor?

I bought one of these as I was having problems with a chrony...no readings with 30+ firings in varying light situations. In really bright overhead sunlight just about bullet registers with my CED. Overcast and not so good. I was advised to color the nonbearing surface of the bullet black...this seems to help. Also tried placing ," puck LED lights " over the center of the diffusers. I made a one inch high support for the pucks so their light would be diffuse as opposed to individual LEDS. Dust will accumulate on the lenses and really cause E1 readings. Inadequate lighting has been my problem.

I may wait for a bright overcast day to try it again but I'll be testing with .22 LR. My problem is that it worked perfectly when I last used it about a year ago. Yes, the battery is good. On second thought, the battery might might be the issue. It was at 8.6 V and while the unit was running fine and not warning of battery issues, a hot battery improved the flashlight test results.

If I were you, the first thing I would have done is called CED for help and guidance.
