I loaded a batch of .338 Lapua Magnum with CCI 250 primers. I had 4 out of 40 fail to fire, even after restriking the round in the Barrett MRAD. The primer was dimpled, and when I pulled apart one of the rounds it appeared the anvil was properly set but the compound just didn't detonate.
I contacted ATK and they said the lot I'm using has not had any negative reports and that I need to use Federal 215s for the .338LM because the pockets are too deep. That's the first I've heard of any substantive difference in large rifle magnum primers. I can't get my hands on any F215s yet, but can anyone substantiate this?
(I find it hard to believe that even though the anvil is seating and the primer is dimpling that I'm seeing 10% failures to detonate.)
