I guess cheap rifles that hammer and cheap ammo is NOT immune to changes from lot to lot variances in ammo ?

Unfortunately, I can't imagine they would be. At least if it is economical, you could try several lots, if available, and then stock up on the very best. Norma Tac has been very good for my RF rifles. Good luck!

Yeah, that's a tough one. Generally it wont happen. However, I do like
the way "Killough lists the Eley ammo. They list lot numbers and how
many boxes are in stock. So you can buy and try, then go back to them
and get that favored lot.....That is if that lot is still there.....

There’s ALOT more to grouping 22 lr than busting squirrels and rabbits im learning and that sucks lol. Thanks

I had a half box 22 longs that were made by Winchester from the 60's.
Put em' in the same hole at 25 yards. Wish I could go back in time !!
Yea I had a few boxes of cci sv, they would make 1 big ragged hole at 50. They got shot up and the ones I did find shoots over a 1” Not good no clue what the others lot number was. I will start writing things down now

I have bought lots of .22 Match ammo from Clint Swigert. He sends you a list of what he has in stock, by brand and lot number. I have him ship a couple of boxes of each of the lots he has a lot of and do a quick test and then buy more of the lot that worked the best. Might not get the best he has, but get the best of what my rifles like that he has good quantities of.

U won’t do that now. Not with lapua anyway Maybe eley. Pretty much all the lapua is all ready spoken for when he gets a shipment because everyone is buying blind just to able to get some.if Zander’s has eley you can lot test and Clint will drop ship it.

If you want consistancy, buy a centerfire and reload or take your 22 to the Lapua test center and buy a case of the best lot number that your gun will shoot. Either way, It gets expensive chasing shooting dollars into a target if you want precision.

Yesterday I weight sorted 500 CCI SV. 80% were pretty close and 10% were heavy, 10% were light. Waiting for the weather to test them. Anybody else sorting them and what are your results?

I weight sorted some cheap Federal and they were all over the place and shot the same. Weight didn't seem to make any difference.

weight sorting don't bring forth conclusive enough results to make it worth it..

Few ways I know of:
Call a retailer and buy samples of the lots they have in stock. Test on your own and hope they have any left in stock if you find a decent lot. I think this is tricky unless you have a private or indoor range where you can test immediately enough to have a shot at buying the lot you like.
Schedule a tunnel test with Lapua or Eley. They will test from lots they know you can buy and you will have an opportunity to buy some that day. This used to be easy but now it’s hard because of increased demand and decreased ammo to serve it.
I’m told you can call Eley to have them advise which retailers or distributors ended up with a given lot number. Maybe Capstone/Lapua does this too, not sure.
Buy ammo in multiple bricks or cases at a time. Test and decide what you’ll do with each lot. Right now I suspect the very serious shooters are doing this because a case of match ammo sells easily at purchase price or a small loss. Or they just practice with the poor lots and save good lots for comp.
Have multiple barrels and/or guns. Test lots against all of them to improve the chance of finding a lot and barrel that perform well together.
