CCI Br4s, grrrrrr

I just have to say that I can't for the life of me get any decent load to work with a CCI BR4 primers in either my 6br or my 6x47L. They seem to be much hotter than the Fed match primers I normally use so I'm wondering if they are causing too much disturbance in the case upon ignition? The report is noticeably louder. For my 6x47L I want to push it a little harder than I can now with my Fed's. I shot it last weekend in single digit temps with sierra 107s and 38.5 gns of H4350 out of a 23" barrel and the fed primers were fairly flat. I was getting a consistent 2925 fps but I know I'll have to back this load off in the summer and I don't want to do that or I won't be taking much advantage of the case capacity/performance. I want to find a load that works with these damn CCIs. Ive tried Backing the loads off, that don't work and neither does stiffening the charge. I've just never had any luck with BR4s in any of my Krieger's or Bartleins. What gives!?Why so much love for these damn things?:mad::mad:

From what I've found and read, the BR4s are not as hot as the 205Ms, I've only used the BR4s in the regular 6br and stepped up to to the 450s in my Dasher, 6x47L and 308 Palma cases but as always YMMV.

I've always found that BR4's are very mild and powder fussy. I've never shot consistent small groups in any of my 30BR's with cut rifled barrels using H4198 or what I use the most, N130. The only barrel that it really shoots consistent small groups in is a Hart 16tw button barrel in 30x46 with a healthy dose of N133. The regular and match 205's didn't work half as well in that barrel.

Interesting. A fellow shooter had problems with these on Saturday. He had at least 12 perfect strikes but no ignition. 3-4 punctured & 2 that had a nipple like protrusion in the middle. Sorry no pics but very strange.

Amazing how experiences vary. I find the CCI BR4 to be the best primer I've ever used and I've tried all but the Russians. CCI primers do have a tougher cup and will not ignite with a superlight firing pin or a dirty bolt with reduced firing pin movement. In my 30BR with H4198 moderate loads in both a Krieger 1:17 and Rock Creek 1:17.5 barrels I have shot dozens of "zeros" in practice, won an IBS score match and placed pretty well in several others. In my 6BR I have fired several thousand rounds, almost all with Varget, over three different barrels and have never had a misfire or identifiable primer problem.
