CCI-450 Vs. Fed 205M

I have had a brick of 205M on the shelf for a backup in case 450s dried up. Decided yesterday to do a little side by side test. Fired nine rounds of CCI-450s, cooled ten minutes and fired nine rounds of the 205Ms. The Garmin gave me the results below.

PS: I am going to bum some 7 1/2 Rems from my son and see how they stack up.

I have been waiting two weeks to get the same range conditions as when I posted the above primer test. The weather was perfect today. 47 degrees and a slight cross wind. I shot all these rounds with about 7-8 minutes between strings. Three three shot groups. The results are amazingly close the the other two.

I am thinking whatever the target had to say, did NOT have anything to do with a difference in ignition. I think Old navy was pointing out HE could use either primer.

205MAR (0.0255) has a thicker cup than a 205M (0.0225) More like 450 (0.025) to a 400 (0.020) cup thickness.

Edited to add listed cup thickness and that I have seen slam fires with 205M in some AR but never had any myself. I have used the MAR way more often in a gas gun though.

Short range group shooters run crazy pressure and many use the 205. They must hold up pretty well

Been beating 205's and 205M's like rented mules for a couple decades with no problems.

With a good fit between the pin tip and the hole, many brands of primers are 'good'. If you don't, many brands of primers are 'bad'.

In my experience, based on looking for more velo in a 204 ruger and 20P, CCI400< FED205M< CCI450. In loads using 205M I would start getting cratered primers at a certain point. Went to CCI450s to try and that same load which cratered 205M, had no cratering at all and I could run them to get more velo.

This shows me the chart of primers cup thickness correlates to showing signs of cratering, at least in my experience.

I've done the same with a 6bra.
Cci400 &450, br4 & 205

None were that far off nor did poi show up differently.

Haven't tried the 6ppc. Started with br4 & have no reason to change.
