CCI 22lr standard vel ammo.

I just bought 1/2 case of the CCI standard 22lr ammo. I do not know what they lube it with, but it sure is gummy, and hard to insert and close the bolt on a couple of my 22 rifles,(W-52, and Anschutz 54). I have to run a bore snake after 8/10 rounds.. Anybody else have this problem? What is a good way to solve this problem? nilebartram

I've noticed it in an Anschutz 1710. Its the 1st rifle I'd noticed it in. Some discussion about it on RFC having to do with the driving bands. I've not measured them. I doubt its length but certainly could be.
The solution for me was to switch ammo.

It's because the wax lube is SOO THICK that they're hard to put into the chamber. I have several cases and was using them for silhouette shooting. Feeding from a magazine into a Kimber HS wasn't an issue but single fed into a 40XB was a pain !! Wipe it off and they'll be alright. Wolf is much better and go up from there to Eley.

I have shot a bunch of CCI SV and in rifles with Match type chambers it will engage the rifilings before it is fully chambered,,kinda like loading CF ammo with a .020 jam,,I dont think its the lube IMO it is the length of the ammo,,

RWS has a version of thier R50 ammo made with a shorter case to use in some of the real short and tight match chambers,,but in my rifles the regular R50 shoots better,,

in my Lilja bbl with EPS chamber if I chamber a round of CCI SV I have to shoot it as the bullet goes in the rifilings to the point it will not extract without firing the round,,

for practice ammo the Norma Tac22 and Wolf MT have been the best cheap ammo I have used,,

I use that same ammo in at least 3 of my target guns with no issues.Send it to me I will burn it up for you.

Bearing surface is longer on some ammo. Causes round to be forced into the lands on some chambers. Common with rifles with target chambers.

Maybe if you put it out on a hot sunny day with the lead facing downward it will melt some of the excessive lube off. My buddy had the same problem this winter and put his on a stovepipe. I bet it's in those expensive plastic boxes.? Let us know

.It is suppose to be 100 tomorrow. I will put some outside. Some I will just wipe the lube off. It will be a couple of weeks before I go to the range.. Off to the East coast, my Mom just turn 86, got to see her. Will let you know when I return. Thanks for the info, etc.... nilebartram

My best friend uses the SV for his sporter rifle shooting exclusively and swears by it. I have tried it different times over the years, the last time being last week and I have always found the Win. Dynapoints gives me better accuracy. Now the Eley ammo from Dick's Sporting Goods (Eley Target) gives me very good accuracy but then it is $7.99 per box of 50. I would like to get ahold of some of the Norma TAC to try.

Try the Fiocchi standard velocity 40 grain lead. This is absolutely the most accurate 22 ammo I ever shot. No feeding problems.
