Cataracts Cost Me my Buck Tag

I thought my scope was going bad. Losing my duplex in the scope. Doc told me I have cataracts coming on. Don't think I am ready for surgery quite yet but it is good to hear all the info you all have dropped here. I had trouble adjusting tobifocals, are near and far vision lenses a headache at first?
Everyone i know who has had cataract surgery have not had any headache issues. My left eye was blurry for a few days. Probably because of the relief incisions for astigmatism. Right eye was working great in two days. I did have to pay ~ $5,500 for the multi distance lenses that the insurance wouldn't cover. For me, it probably was a waste of money. Distance vision is excellent. I'm typing this without glasses, and do most stuff on the computer without glasses. However, I need 2.0 readers for fine print. The biggest difference I noticed was how much the cataracts were blocking light. I couldn't see very well driving at night. What a difference! Everything is brighter. Colors are amazingly vivid. I can see very well driving at night now.
I had to readjust all my scopes ocular lenses. I don't wear glasses except for reading puny print. Had I known how bad my vision had become, I would have got them done sooner. The deterioration is so gradual you don't notice it.

Flare with cataracts driving at night. My wife was 20/400 with flare (20/200 is legally blind). So we found out why I did all the driving when the lights came on. We have both had the surgery now and it is sure great to do most things, except reading, without glasses.

I'm hesitant - but knowing I need to get that surgery for cataracts at some point. Having health issues get in the way of things brings mortality to the forefront. I applied for a coveted California "X" zone tag for about twenty years and, wouldn't you know I'd get drawn in the worst part of covid? No where to stay - nowhere to eat and no one to go with - and no time to get rigged up with a motorhome just for this trip. The tag makes for nice conversational "wall paper". In the old days for me (40-50 years ago), I'd have driven up there and laid my bag in the back of the truck and froze my ass off and had fun. I thought about doing that again - for about two minutes.
