Case trimming

47L, no turn, not hot, Lapua brass. Is it necessary to trim the .001-.002 growth that occurs w/ first loading? Currently on 4th loading w/ no further growth ?

TIA

Have they ever been trimmed? How close are you to 1.840"? I have seen lengths get shorter when only neck sizing (bushing die , no expander used) but then the same cases would grow particularly in the shoulder datum area when FL sized to the point prior to where they would just start to bump.

I guess if it ain't broke don't fix it so long as you are sure you have uniformity in your lengths and have mouth clearance.

Trim all brass initially to the shortest dimensioned case. After that, whatever suits your proclivities.

As long as the maximum length is not exceeded, there's no reason to trim from a safety standpoint. If you want total uniformity or crimp your bullets, then you'll need to trim as necessary to maintain what ever length you've decided on.
