Case Trimmer Cutting Heads

Redding, Forster, Hornady, Lyman, RCBS all make case trimmers. I think some cutting heads work better than others. Standard tool steel or Tin coated can be purchased for any of them.

Instead of going out and buying everyones case trimmers, how many of the cutter heads are ' INTERCHANGEABLE' between the different manufacturers ? EX; can the RCBS cutter head be installed on a Lyman, or can a Redding cutter head be installed on the Forster unit ?

Are all the cutter head and shaft threads 'different' or are there some that will 'interchange' ?

Most parts are not interchangable and vary from one manufacture to the next. Purchase a new Wilson/Sinclair Ultimate Case Trimmer along with a case holder for each different cartridge you intend to be reloading and you'll set. When the cutter finally start to dull several years down the road you can up-grade to their new carbide cutter and it will probably out last you. Buy the best once and be through with it.

If you're going to reload in volume for multiple calibers, consider getting a Giraud trimmer. In addition to being quick, it does the inside and outside chamfers at the same time. If you'll only be doing one caliber in volume, a Gracey trimmer with a Giraud carbide cutter will cost substantially less and work just as well; however, it's much more work to switch between calibers.

wilson/sinclair trimmer is GREAT! neat trick after deburring and chamferring is to smooth out the case lip by spinning the case in a case holder mounted in a variable speed drill mounted upside down in a vise. load a small piece of fine steel wool into an empty .45 ACP case and push this against the case lip until case is smooth and shiney. if i can see you, i can touch you. BANG!
