Case separation

I am still having trouble with case separation with my 7-08AI Encore. I do not believe I am bumping the shoulder back to far to change the headspace, I am measuring the case length with the chamber. What are other causes of case separation. These are 2-4 times fired Nosler 308 cases that have been necked down and fireformed.

Bill:
Get yourself a set of Stoney Point Head Space Gages and a dial caliper.
Using the correct Stoney Point Gage, measure 2-3 of fired cases.
Resize the cases and measure again.
You should only have to set the shoulder back 1 1/2 to 2 thousandths.
If you are in the 5 thousandths or over range, the brass is probably junk.

Is it a factory chamber in 7-08 AI ? Or improved afterward?

There are factory 7-08 ai chambers? I'd recommend getting a set of manson go and nogo gauges. Manson gauges are made with the .004" crush that Ackley used. I have seen cases separate in chambers that did not use proper headspace.

When you see the post listed, you have to consider if the timeframe means there is little chance the issue is still current. In many of these zombie threads, the original posters have left the range....

I agree. Separation is a frequent topic I would be nice to read the resolution.

The reason I asked about factory chamber versus custom: I don't recall that Ackley discussed this, but Clymer did in its AI instructions. The barrel needs to be setback when reaming the chamber to improved, and I think the Encore barrel cannot be set back. Thusly, the source of the stretch.

In 16 years, expecting a concise, detailed resolution from the OP is an exercise in futility.
I'd suggest reading more recent posts if one is interested in a solution. Given that this particular thread went dead.

Thanks for that, but I have never seen a discussion about separation with fixed barrels.
