Case neck lube

Was wondering what the thought is and if it might help on adding some form of additive to the tumbling media to help on possible more consistent neck tension. Thanks Bill

What kind of tumbling media do you have? Tumbling has really nothing to do with neck tension unless it cleans all the carbon off the interior of the neck of the brass, which will make for heavier seating pressure.

In total agreement with Jon here.

Thanks John, I'm going to try ultrasonic cleaning and was looking at some form of additive to either corn media or ceramic to add back hopefully some form of consistency to neck lube. Bill

FWIW I have always been told to leave the carbon in the necks to aid as a release agent for the bullets...So I did an experiment..I cleaned 10 cases real good..Got all the crud out..Left 10 crudy..Loaded them all the same....The dirty necks shot a lot better than the clean ones did...My thought was that there was way to much friction on the clean necks....Like I said FWIW....

I think that I get what you are asking. The outsides of my cases feel very slick when I tumble in corncob with the Dillon polish. Seems like it might do something to the inside of the necks too. You might need to leave the brass in the tumbler for quite a while since the inside of the necks would not get as much (or any?) friction.

Should be easy enough for you to test. Nufinish car polish works well too. Available at WalMart and car parts stores and you wouldn't have to pay shipping.
