Case length of 308 Baer

Can any one give me the case length of the 308 Baer? I bought a used 308 baer Light Gun and it came with several pices of Norma brass of varring lengths. I also got some new 340 Weatherby brass by Norma necked down and ready to trim and fire form. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Mike

Since you have a chambered barrel to start with, you might find one of these tools from Sinclair helpful in measuring the actual length of your chamber:

I bought a used 6mmBR and this tool helped me decide how long to trim the cases. As long as the case necks are not too long, you should be able to seat the bullets to jam into the rifling with a lot of neck tension then let the cases fire-form to whatever the dimensions of your chamber.

Thanks Lynn, This rifle shoots good and is well balanced. The recoil isn't bad with the brake, so I think i will enjoy shooting it, and hope to develop a really acurate load, just like every body else. Thanks again, Mike

Hi Lynn, Thanks for the additional information. I understand the using of the comparator for seating depth. I also understand that the rifle will respond to different seating depths. The part that is confusing is the 0.025 long seating and then reseating. My logic says that if you know where you want it, to just seat it there in the first place. I must be missing something here. Here is where I am at now. I picked up the rifle 3-27-10. We mounted a scope and loaded some 240SMK with 72 grains of 4831 SC. Only having the 1000yd range at Williamsport, it took several rounds to get sighted in. The rifle is short throated and didn't do well with the 240's. The next day we loaded 210 Berger Target Match, 215M primers and 78 grains of RL25 at the lands. After two shots to get on paper I shot a 5 shot 6 .75" group with an aveage velocity of 2786 and a ES of 21. My son shot the next group with 79 grains of RL25 and every thing else the same. The average velocity was 2833 with a ES of 17, but the group was not as good. I guess I will do a ladder test at the lands and then work on seating depth. I was expecting more velocity than this, I can get this same velocity with 65.5 grains of H4831 from the 300 WSM, Thanks, Mike
