Case filling funnels

Has anyone tried the caliber specific funnels, with the interchangeable ends from Lyman, and if so, are they any good?

There is a review on jonnys reloading bench where he claims that the funnel is very heavy and thick. Only review I've seen.

I got a Lyman funnel set about a month and a half ago to replace an old plastic Midway which,I never really cared for. But used it for probably 15 years.....

Also got a NOS Lyman powder dribbler about the same time to replace the,"U dribble" ubiquitous, 30-06 case.

Will have to let you know,my loading has been utilizing dropped/thrown,"known" charges and haven't really needed them:confused: ?

I've had a yearning for the Area 419 set for a while but there always seems to be something needing ($) attention first. So I bought the Lyman set to get me by since they are affordable. First thing I did was cut that handle off with a Dremel and polish it up with a file. Because of its weight, it balances fine and doesn't wobble if you have good fitting loading blocks. I have all the calibers to match the inserts and have noticed no problems. It does the job just fine for now and is a great improvement over the light plastic ones. Ah, but someday the Area 419....

I’ve got several old aluminum funnels that Pacific had many years ago. One 22 to 270 and one 270 on up to I know at least 45. I keep my eye out for them at gun shows. Never paid more than $2.50 for any of them, including my original one I bought in 1965.

I use the Xtreme Hardcore Gear Funnels. I have tried the multi funnels and don't care for them. Have a bunch of adapters that can get lost, most are not used.

With the Xtreme, I can choose the caliber I need, not what they want to sell me, it stays in place, has a very smooth finish and drains completely and quickly. I don't see myself using anything else. Buy once, cry once and enjoy. Something I am learning.

Depends on what you intend to load. If you are going to have to use a drop tube, get the 21st century with the drop tube length of your choice.

if no drop tube, the Area 419 set is nice. I have both 21st Century and Area 419 and use both.

The area 419 set is nice- i have one. A few issues with it make me not use it- it wont sit on a case all alone (thats how i keep track in a loading block) and the optional drop tube (which i need) makes it even worse. Satern funnels are good but caliber specific so you need a collection. The forster blue ribbon funnel and a bright light above is the cheapest and most useful option. The 21st century is very nice just as all their other stuff. I made my own from a satern funnel and a 14” harrels drop tube and it works for me.

I have been using the Lyman set for the past couple months. As mentioned the funnel is on the heavy side. My loading blocks hold the brass firmly so no issues for me with propping the funnel on each case as I go down the line. No issues with powder getting away. The only thing I am more careful about while using this funnel set up is that I am more careful placing it on the case so I don't cause any dings. Maybe that's not a real concern but metal to metal adds a new factor to the feel of my age old process. Overall I've been happy with the set. I have never used any of the higher priced ones so I can't offer a comparison. Definitely an improvement to the universal plastic funnels for sure, better flow, better fit, and stay positioned on the case better.
