I agree. I believe that if you’re a good shooter you’re probably better off with a lower recoiling cartridge than say a 284. This applies to sling only. I was just curious as to when the trend began. Kent Reeve won it in 2003 or 4 with a 300 win mag. I’m sure we won’t see that cartridge again. There were at least 2 wins with 7mms over the past 15 years, but other than that I believe all the wins were with 6mms with the exception of this year and the 308 winIn my opinion, I'd be less worried about the cartridge that won, and more interested in the individual that one. I'd be willing to bet that the given winner of each year could have won using just about any of the common cartridges now a days. Its the time and effort that makes you a winner, not by just picking the most popular round.
Thanks for everyone's input so far.I believe the long range agg includes Palma scores too, so that going to be 308s. You can't win the agg if you don't agg well there.
I think Michelle uses(d) a 6.5-284 in the any rifle matches, and I believe Sherri uses a 260 Rem.
John Whidden shoots a 243
It's been written above already, but it ain't the chambering.

Every shooter does shoot the Palma course of fire but they don't have to shoot .308, just have to use iron sights. Most of the LR National Champs use scopes for the matches that allow them, Leech/Wimbledon. There is different classes in the LR agg and the separate Bert Rollins trophy for the Palma rifle aggregate shooters.
