Cartridge love...i mean real obsessive love

What on earth is it that attracts a person to a particular cartridge, and dislikes another.
Some made a post about the much loved 25-06.
I like many other people have a special place in my heart for that cartridge
Its no different then any other cartridge but i find my self literally drawn to the .257 caliber cartridges
For me i think it maybe the way the case looks and feels in my hand.
I suppose in a way it matches my personality. Im not a big guy. But i know how to throw my wieght around. Im looking to have fun most of the time , but if its time to put in some nasty hard work well i dont complain in no model but kind of a hansom guy.
Just like the 25-06.
Could that be what goes thru the head and heart of a person with a cartridge in their hand?.
The 308win, 243win, 22-250, , 7mm rem mag, 300win mag any weatherby cartridge with that odd bottle neck of their's
I find unattractive big clunky cartridges. Like a heavy woman who sings the Delta blues or
driving a 1968 Buick station wagon..ok lets load em up and easssss on out of here . Hahaha
But at the same time im drawn to the 32-20, 25-35, 30-30, 223, 6br, 25-06 300Rem ultra mag
Man i just dont get it. Its not like any of it is important or matters in the grand scheme of things.
If i was hit by at truck and laying in the road gasping my last few breaths im not gonna be thinking about my favorite rifle cartridges...or will i? Maybe i will yell out 25-06 or 6br and pass, like BreveHeart hahaha
I would like to hear why others are attracted or have crazy obsessed love affair with their particular cartridge of choice.
So i know im not mentally twisted ..if i feel it, that means some of you do also.
We will sit and literally mess with a new order of brass for weeks no one finds that odd?
Some cant wait to buy bulk brass by the 1000's and sit making every case perfect.
But not just any case..it has to be a particular case or it doesnt receive the love.
And thats not odd personal behavior in the corner of your reloading room by yourself.
Its odd man no way about it.
This is supposed to be a fun topic, so we can tell on ourselves because were all kind of weird. You gotta at least admit that.

What attracts people to a Ford vs Chevy?

I like the .22-250 and still think it has exciting potential for competition, if only barrels would not burn out so fast!

However, I am rethinking it as in today's world of fast long-distance communication combined with precise machining, I may have a happy medium to play with. AKA: the .22BR

BTW...I owned Chevy trucks and Suburban's since I could drive. Lately I bought a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon...so we all can change if we have too! I guess!

I might be the guy that posted the question. I grew up sitting around a different campfire. Most of the hunting we did was in the woods. Flat shooting speedsters weren’t used much. 30-30, 300 Savage and 35 Remington were the guns that came down thru our family. My first rifle purchase was a 300 Weatherby Magnum and EVERYBODY told me I was silly using an “elephant gun” for deer. Some guys had 30-06s, but they hunted in the mountains and said they took long shots. 25-06? I only heard about it when I moved to Texas and a cousin said it was his favorite cartridge. I was happily surprised to find such a big following. My cousin is not crazy!

For me its utility of purpose. I define that as an economical, effective, uncomplicated, readily available cartridge (components in the case of a reloader).

In the beginning, because I could only afford one centerfire rifle, I needed one cartridge that met all those criteria for eastern white tail, ground hogs and foxes. I selected the 243 Win and never regretted it.

These days my needs have changed to varmint and predator hunting and a lot of recreational range shooting so my primary cartridge in the 223 Rem which meets all the above criteria.

I get 280 reloads out of one pound of powder, buy quality bullets in bulk, and within the range that I hunt, the 223 Rem drops critters efficiently if I do my part. Reloading the 223 Rem for bolt rifles is as about as simple as it gets. The supply chain issues have turned availability upside down for just about everything, but I have managed to stay stocked enough to the point that it has not affected my participation.

Looking at it from a Competitors viewpoint, I shoot particular cartridges for one reason. The are my best choice in the Competitive Arena.

I don’t have any particular love for the 6PPC or the 30BR. But in NBRSA Group and Score competition, they are my best bet to be competitive.

However, in the civilian market, I have always had a love for the venerable 30/06, despite of all of the “modern” trends.

Maybe that is it, perhaps family is a strong influence, or area of residence.
For me a 30-30 cant be beat in the thick northern woods. Tangled mess it is.
Ive always had a dream to hunt Texas pronghorn.
That was actually the reason for purchasing my first 25-06.and i fell in love with it..
I grew up in Ohio, and have family in Texas. But live in NY most of the time...im kind of a drifter in my old age.
Everyone says...PRONGHORN!, WELL YOU WANT A 25-06.
Well i haven't made it out to get my pronghorn..but one day i will.
And those little pigs..i want to blast some of those..hahaha..what are they called...they run through the brush like a little frieght train in a single file line..
Hold on ill look it up..

Javelinas hahaha...pew pew pew!

223 probably wins for me. It can be shot in my AR and bolt guns, cheap to shoot, kills paper, steel, and varmints, and free brass is plentiful.

6BR and 222 are a couple that surprised me, and I'm enjoying shooting them as well.

Love the 30BR for its pure short range accuracy, the 6GT for ringing steel at long range, 45 Colt (esp black powder loads) for a wheel gun, 45 ACP (1911) for semi auto pistol…..but to put a smile on my face nothing beats 45-70 and 45-90 in BPCR with tang mounted venier sights, shooting off cross sticks, hitting steel at distances that shouldn’t be possible with open sights.

I was 12, reading Outdoor Life, Sports Afield. Deer hunting stories. Mom/Dad said I could buy a rifle, I figured it had to be a .243. Just because I knew I would be deer hunting, somewhere a rifle was legal(I grew up in a shotgun zone). Until then I would be fox hunting(no coyote around then). After dozens of fox and the sewing after skinning/fleshing. I went to the 17 rem. After, well to many(fox, coyote on the 3rd barrel) stopped counting. The 17 rem will always be the ONE to reach for.

The 6 BRX for me. Why? Accuracy I need, low recoil, good barrel life and I can tell people not in the know “ I shoot a wildcat cartridge “ and then spend an hour explaining what it is and how you form brass ‍ lol
The 6BRX is definitely a favorite of mine but I have to say the 30BR & 260AI are as helpful with putting me to sleep at nite. LOL

I have a 1885 in 45/120 it's a beast but it's a hoot to shoot. As Elmer Keith once said, " I like a rifle that gives results from both ends".
