cartridge base to ogive measuring

Hornaday bullet comparator works ok, Sinclair makes a stand with a dial indicator works good but it’s just a comparator I suppose the Stoney point/ Hornaday works the best for the price

I use an Hornady comparator with Sinclair insert as the insert is closer to where the lands touches the bullet.

When I'm sorting a box of bullets I'll use an insert that has a diameter that matches the diameter of the seating stem in the seating die so. The insert is actually one that's supposed to be of a different caliber, but selected one that matched (or came very close to) that of the seating stem. It helps with getting the consistent seating depth I look for.

Hornady tool but with (usually) the bullet Comparator bushings so I can pick where on the case shoulder I want to measure to. Pick one that works on both fired and resized cases (very different neck o.d's).

Best measuring way to measure cartridge base to ogive.
A dial/electronic caliper with a bullet ogive comparator attachment, such as the Sinclair or Hornady tool. One finger of the caliper is rested on the cartridge base and the bullet tip is inserted into the comparator attached to the opposing finger. Different bullet calibers require corresponding comparator inserts. Many of the above responses are concerning bullet base to ogive measurements...a different beast. Very simple and inexpensive

bozo999, you are correct but if you fully understand his comparator(TOOK ME QUITE AWHILE) Bob does not think the base to ogive measurement is the most important thing, and I agree with him. I use it to sort my bullets and then recheck each loaded round. As far as I will go with this conversation, just relaying what works for me.
