Carry gun thinking

I am upgrading my carry gun to the sig P365 with the xL grip module with the macro comp slide ( pictured)

Im adding the Mischief Machine metal grip mod and Ramm Tactical trigger. I recently did this with the Sig P365 Fuse ( pictured) , and it completely changed the gun. It's now a serious shooter. I would say it could legitimately compete with mid range 1911s. The comps on both guns work very well.

Since most self defense shootings are 1--3 rounds , I think the 12+1 rounds of the xL grip module is more than enough.

The xL module is an easy carry, not too heavy and not too big. Im a carry wuss.... gun gotta be "Goldilocks just right." My old eyes need the red dot, and I highly recommend serious regular training with red dots. Yes , they make sighting easier , but can also make sighting harder.

I cant bring myself to appendix carry, so I do 4 oclock IWB.

How have you worked thru these issues?

Practice, pratice, practice! I LOVE my 365XL. I run 17rd mags with backups. I also only appendix carry. None of that matters. My setup is not yours. You do WHAT WORKS FOR YOU! As long as you ARE carrying!! Took me a while to adapt to red dot on handguns but now I have one on everything and even put one on my hunting revolver :)

I do a lot of sitting for my job.... whether driving a car or at my desk. And appendix carry just pinches too many things ( no, I'm not flattering myself.I'm talking about the waist and the abdomen. )

What Works standing upright just doesn't work for me Seated. Maybe Im doing it wrong.

It's (appendix) certainly not for everybody! I happen to find the most comfortable setup that fits my lifestyle. I found 2 o'clock to the 4 o'clock position being uncomfortable and always in my way sitting and driving. I went with a higher riding holster that got the pistol up a little bit, so it's not down in my pants as deep. I forget that I'm carrying it- it's so comfortable. Again, don't worry about how anyone else carries. You find what works for you and practice your draw and press by dry firing. Several reps every day, makes it muscle memory in no time! Enjoy that XL! I LOVE the triggers in those!

Appendix just seems to make so much sense.I hate to miss out on a good thing.

My every day carry is a Full Size Glock 37 Gen III. That is a 45 GAP so you do not have to look it up. It has had the grip redone to closely replicate a Gen V. The slide has been milled and a Holosun 507C with Green Chevron sets on top. I carry at 3-4 O'Clock IWB in a Caldwell Gun Leather Holster. As I carry everyday my pants are all one size larger than they would be if not carrying IWB. Most days when just going to work or around the house the 10+1 Capacity is just fine. Church Carry Sunday and events where we have a Security Detail I add a Double Magazine Carrier, and two more Magazines in my vest pockets. Total 51 rounds. I qualify with the Church Security Team as well as the Sheriff's Dept. I normally qualify with an optical sight as well as open sights.
My reload magazines have the Plus 2 Floor Plate. That is Plus 1 on a 45, however I do not add a round. The reason for the extension is so that the magazine always latch's doing a speed reload.
Not a 9mm fan at all, however I do own a Glock 17 Gen V. Cheaper to shoot a lot. I also own a new Glock 22 Gen V MOS that I need to get an optical sight on, and start shooting and carrying some.
I do have a couple compacts, a Glock 38 Gen III, and a Glock 23 Gen IV. I find that I can carry full size just as easy as compact. I have carried a sub-compact for a short while. I found the sub-compact slower to make good hits with shooting Combat Match's. Shoot Combat Match's and you will get a lot better handle on what you can shoot well, and what you cannot. When our Church Security Team first organized about 90% who volunteered had small handguns. All now are Compact or Full Size. Much easier to shoot well.

I carry with a grip forward owb (muzzle interferes with strong hand wallet, so wallet goes in left pocket). Than I can drive, sit with my G17. I don't max load mag, 12(not 13 ever)or 14. Extra mag in vehicle, pocket in jacket weather. Yes I can draw in my truck.

I agree to disagree. Particularly with guns without an external safety, such as a Glock.

My thinking on that is that guns with external safeties tend to have very Low pull weight triggers... like a cocked and locked 1911.

Given the craziness going on with the sig P320 , and what I believe is user error for guns with a fairly sensitive trigger.... i wouldn't want to appendix Carry an external safety that could easily get knocked off just by me Standing up , or reaching across the table.

Is there something you do to prevent that or am I missing something here ?.

I suppose I'm the odd one out.

A carry a S&W Bodyguard in .380ACP. Fits in the pocket of literally anything.

I'm getting old. Some jackass might decide to 'roll' me at the gas pump one day. I figure if it's not on my person all the time, it's no help. And I have no visions of a long-range shoot out. No 'quick draw' tricks for me. If there are multiple attackers well.... Possible. Even a single attacker would be the worst day of my life. I'm not gonna prepare for a turf war. I just don't want a beating because I'm old.

And yes, I shoot it occasionally. A 9" pie plate at 20 yards is plenty good enough for what it is. And I can do that.

YMMV.

Unless you casual carry (not daily) some things to consider like going to the restroom. eventually you will be in a situation where you will need to sit on the toilet if you are carrying anything bigger than a sub-compact or smaller it will pose a problem. something that can be put in your front pants pocket works great.
Also, there is two kinds of CCW casual conceal and deep conceal. casual conceal you can get away with if you print. but deep conceal you are in places where the slightest hint of printing will not work.

My first was p365, then put the 12rd grip on it. Its a must for big hands. I later bought a p365xl. I like the p365x more.

When I carry its usually lcp 380 in the pocket.

Is there something I do to prevent that? I don't carry appendix. If you carry a gun and the safety easily gets knocked off you have a gun that needs repair, have a poorly made holster, or need further training. And a 1911 properly set up for carry does not have a low pull weight trigger. It will have a trigger pull weight of 4 lbs. or a bit more. I believe appendix carry with any striker-fired gun is unsafe and just plain stupid. Just as stupid as pocket carry without a holster stupid. But that's me. I've only got 42 years or so of daily carry experience and was also a police firearms instructor. But you do you. There are many who disagree with my opinion. I'm good with that. They have the right to their opinion. My opinion, based on my experience and training, says appendix carry is stupid. Rant mode off.......

Rant mode was UNNECESSARY, for me.
