Carbon wrapped barrels

I have a 6x47 Lapua with a 27" #7 contour fluted barrel that is a dream to shoot and a nightmare to pack around the hills as the balance of a sling using a Harris bipod is just plain poor. I am thinking of rebarreling somewhere down the line with a switchbarrel carbon wrapped barrel to cut several pounds off of the rifle. What are the pitfalls of a setup like that? Thanks. Tom

Cost would be my first thought. If you can get past that, I see no other pit falls.
I put together a 300RSAUM with one in 2005-06. It shoots good.

ABS was the maker. Rock Creek 5R blank

That's a great article, I remember reading it when it was first posted. I would love to take one of those carbon fiber wraped barrels on a sheep hunt. Does anyone have a feel for whether the cold shot ability is any better or worse on average than a conventional barrel.

That article is what got me started researching wrapped barrels. The cost is steep but I think a 6x47 should give Varmint accuracy for the rest of my hunting days no more than what I shoot. Like I said, that #7 contour barrel is a pain to pack all day. Tom
