Carbon Ring ID help

Most of my reloading life is governed by mag lengths so COAL is more relevent to me than CBTO. There is no space in my life for single-feeding anything right now.

Might I recommend
Working up to approx 43.0 grns of W-760 ;) (2.800" OAL)

This load was very accurate with several 20"-22" / .308 / AR-10's / with 175 TMK's

Looking forward to your explanation.

Good shootin' :) -Al
So, I owe an apology.

I was thinking cartridge base to shoulder datum, but my fingers were typing CBTO.

If the case is being oversized, then a minimum case trim is performed, neck interference issues are a definite possibility upon firing. Particularly if the base to neck measurement isn't checked before the next loading cycle.

Again, I apologize for my misuse of terminology. I was distracted by other things and didn't realize my mistake until I read post #23.

As my neighbor used to say, 'This gettin' old stuff ain't for whimps!'

Prioritizing neck length over headspace and bullet jump is a wast of time. It’s a symptom of other more important dimensions.

@DShortt I usually measure from bass to shoulder datum with RCBS case micrometer and keep track of origional case and fired case length that way. I use a drop-in loaded cartridge gage for quick QC'ing sized cases and loaded ammo.

Your posts seem to show you want loads created with mixed headstamp brass, using multiple bullets, all loaded to the same length, in brass trimmed to max length, sized to minimum base to shoulder datum, creating maximum headspace.
Your cure is to simply trim the neck shorter, normally a non issue for accuracy and performance, so you can ignore the things that do matter like case capacity and uniformity.

All for the goal of taking your best ammo on hunting trips where your chamber is prone to get filled with dirt and grime and tre needles.

This is basically the requirements of a battle rifle capable of 2 MOA.

A case that measures 2.015”, loaded in a 308 SAAMI chamber and hits the end of the chamber does not have a neck length issue. It has a body length issue, which creates a headspace issue. That’s a great attribute if you’re prone to using sticks and leaves and stuff for natural camouflage inside your chamber. Not so good if you expect reasonable accuracy, energy and range.

Simply sorting your brass by headstamp would probably reduce the variation in base to shoulder datum and go a long way towards having a neck trimming need. It would also help reduce differences in case capacity and load density improving down range performance.

Or you could simply trim the necks to cure the symptom, while ignoring the causes.
