Carbon fiber barrel for FTR competition

Thats something I'd like to see some hard testing on (hint, hint, Bryan Litz ;) ) as far as barrel life... the *advertising* for some of the CF (and the Teludyne SBS) claim to extend barrel life by pulling heat away from the bore. It'd be interesting to see if they really did work as advertised, with the testing done by an independent reliable third party.

Greg knows his stuff.

I would sell your solid pour stock and get something lighter. You are throwing serious money at something that can easily be overcome by going with lightweight stock or chassis.

BTW, I'm not scared of carbon barrels, I just don't think this is the application I'd purchase one for:

Ryan,

What does your Defiance actioned rifle weigh????

Barrel length???

McMillan or Manners stock???

Phil.

Phil, I have several F-TR rifles with Defiance "Templar" actions, which are pretty much identical to the Defiance Deviant action, except they have GA Precision's logo engraved. With 30" MTU contour barrels and NF NXS 12-42 scopes in med/hi NF rings, McMillan A5 stocks, Badger M5 bottom metal/AICS steel mags, leather/cloth buttstock covers, US Optics flip-out anti-cant devices, and a 1.5 lb LRA bipod, the two .308 Win rifles weight in at almost exactly 18.0 lb. The barreled actions of these rifles weigh 12.8 lb, and the 30" MTU contour chambered barrels weigh 7.5 lb.

A rifle in .223 Rem that differs from the .308s as described above only in that it has no bottom metal/mag (single feed), and a 30" M24 contour barrel, weighs in at 17.8 lb. The barreled action weighs 12.5 lb, and the 30" M24 contour chambered barrel weighs 7.1 lb.

Bare rifle is 7.4 lbs. It weighs 9.5 lbs scoped. Not the lightest rifle you'll see, but it balances well and shoots decent. ;)

I bet it shoots great. The 300 WSM just seems to be easy to tune and they shoot great. Matt
