Carbon cutting fluid

Just thinking, something I do every now & then, and wondering if anyone uses black powder carbon cleaner to remove carbon before using copper cleaner? I'm thinking that it should work as it does on smokepoles.

Tried some Fluid Film sprayd on a patch with some iosso rubbed in today, dont know why just tried it . 3 Patches of the "mix" after some C4 on n Bore T brush and a couple dry patches, patch out until clean and hit the coper. A while ago I saw Fluid Film gets "under" carbon, worked very good.

Try a mixture of Sea Foam 80% and Kroil 20%.

Sea Foam is an top engine cleaner and can be bought at Auto Parts Store. Comes in Metal bottle that says a lot.

After mixing the 80/20 mix, can this be kept in a Plastic Bottle for easy application to a patch for cleaning of the Necks?

I keep mine in a glass eyedropper bottle. but in a short time it will dissolve the rubber part of the eye dropper.

There was an old benchrest cleaner that consisted of Hoppes black powder solvent and Hoppes #9 mixed to form a thick consistency. I could not find Hoppes blk powder solvent so I substituted Thompsons TC 17. Vary the two to make it thick or thin...thick seems to work best. This works, smells great, and no toxic chemicals. Let bore soak a bit and the liquid turns black.

I remember when Orange Crush was in the brown bottle.. that was good stuff too!~

If Seafoam make sure to get the can with the white background with red letters, not the white letters.

I've never blended SeaFoam with anything. Sounds like a learning opportunity.
I've been using "straight" SeaFoam on my smallbore rifles for about 6 years. I still have the original metal can. I wondered/worried about the famous (infamous?) carbon ring that I feared would occur as a result of several thousand rounds annually. Since I don't own a borescope, I figured a few bucks for SeaFoam and the time to scrub the chamber/throats was cheaper than buying one. In the last couple years or so, I've begun using it on centerfires as well.
I may have to get that borescope eventually.

The Lyman is good enough for checking your cleaning regimen.
