cant touch the lands, need ideas plz

It sounds like you're guessing about the 40-50 thou jump. I would take a Cerrocast mold and get an accurate look at your chamber.Just an opinion,FWIW,Tom.

i have a model 12 lrpv 6br 12 twist. problem is, as the 12 twist will only stabilize 80g bullets or less, they are too short to get even close to the lands. best i can measure .040-50" is as close as i can get w/ a reasonable amount of bullet seat. that much jump is surely dentrimental to accuracy. the barrel has bout 1400-1500 rounds through it. has anyone else encountered or observed this situation? reckon why savage chose to make the throat so deep w/ a 12 twist? seems convoluted to me. looks like a rechamber is the only solution. any ideas appreciated. thanks greg

I'll bet your barrel isn't a factory Savage barrel. The only twist rate that I am aware of in anything chambered for 6BR is an 8 twist.

What is the history of the rifle?

Well, that is quite the mystery, because Savage doesn't currently offer any rifle in 6BR with anything but an 8 twist. Unless maybe it was a custom shop order.....

Still, to me, a 12 twist 6BR sounds very odd. :o

Of course that is for the current offerings, so the 12 twist barrels must no longer be in production.

I will ask the factory folks when I am at the NRA show in April.

12 twist is in their 2014 catalog pg 32
but is not on the website today
guess it was dropped

anyhow, we have our first shoot saturday mar 7th
will see how things turn out
lo fri nite 16 hi sat 45............dang

shot a 448 saturday. hi score was 473. overall scores were 15-25pts lo due to wind. cudda had 458 if not for a fluke. that would have been 3rd place out of 6, instead i was 4th.
hard to determine how much is due to wind or rifle or load or me.
