I got one of the Muzzle braked Savage replacement barrels fitted into a fiberglass stock ..Savage varmint tapers are huge!! This Adams & Bennett 243 winchester now sports a threaded end for a shrewd muzzle brake...Awesome noise it makes ..After a short break in ..I started firing some groups..Right off it showed some potential at 100yds...with a variety of bullets...I got three ragged looking 7/8's inch groups[edge to edge]..& one looks like I can still shoot...using the 87 gr hornady V-max bullet..IMR 4064 powder...Cleaned the barrel again & cooled it some I set after the 200 yd targets...got 4/5 into an inch & an eighth ...first shot was 2.1/4 inches right & low..opps..next two were touching right on the money..but I could not keep it there..last two were 3/4 inch low of that..some days...the 6mmbr gun faired somewhat better at 200 yds 3 touching then two high & right by 5/8's...I blame wind & operator failure...Anyway I'm at a loss for this new barrel & a 243 loading...I'd like to stick with the IMR 4064 powder & 87gr V-max bullet..I should do the ladder test [afew tenths of a grain eack way] & vary the seating depth...past that ANY IDEAS ??? mike in ct
