Cancelled Matches

After driving 6 hours round trip to a scheduled match at AEDC, that was cancelled at the very last minute, I'm about to give up driving to matches more than an hour away from home. The match directors there are first rate and bust their butts to put on great matches, but its a military base and the military doesn't care at all about giving any notice to "sport shooters." There has to be a better way to announce cancellations so people don't drive for many hours and rent hotels, only to find the matches were cancelled with no notice at all. Nothing was posted here that I could find when I checked prior to leaving home.

An email was sent out to the mailing list March 17th, then posted again here a week ago. If you're driving in a long distance, send an email in to midsouthmarksmen@gmail.com a few days before. This likely would not have happened if the 2018 thread didn't have to be deleted.

This is the first match we have had cancelled by the Army in probably 5-6 years, which makes me wonder what's going on...

I didn't see that posting and I did look the day before for such a posting. I wasn't the only one that missed it, because while driving home I called a few other shooters that usually shot those matches, and they too had come to the match, found it cancelled and were either driving home or already home. As I mentioned, the guys who run those matches are first rate. I have not shot any matches anywhere better run then Tim and John run them. The range is a very good range to shoot at, and I am thankful for the military allowing us civilians to utilize their facilities. They have no obligation to do so. But we really need a better way to inform folks at least the day before a match is scheduled, if they are cancelled. I'm pretty sure I recall other matches there have been cancelled, but they were posted as such in a way that was obvious. Few of us read these posts daily, so if a post is a page or two back when we check before leaving for a match, we won't find it.

M99, There was a cancellation notice sent out a week before. You should get on the MSM Mailing list. I have to drive about an 11/2 hrs and really wanted to shoot this match but that's the way my luck runs. There was also a thread started about where to shoot this weekend and showed AEDC was canceled. Hope this helps but 3 hrs one way sucks.
