Canadian Shooters dealers

Hi All,
Just wondering if there is any Canadian shooters or dealers on here who know the export procedure out of Canada to Australia. Might be easier than from the US.
Rifles, triggers Etc Also Secondhand Bench-rest rifles how much Bench-rest shooting is done in Canada

Aussie Bob, not sure if exporting out of Canada will be of any benefit to you.

The cost of the items will be one of the killers. Most of the equipment we get is via the US so the dollar exchange is one killer along with the cost of exporting it into Canada.

An example right now would be a 395.00 US scope is worth about 650.00 CDN just to import it yourself. If you get a dealer involved the cost is probably going to be about 10-15% higher.

You can almost count on things being double the price right now the way the Canadian dollar has dropped back to reality. We had it good for a while about 6 months ago when our dollar was higher than the US but that was short lived.

We do have some fine barrel makers in Canada, and a Gunsmith in Alberta who is in the midst of turning out his own actions. He specializes more in long range builds. The cost of bringing actions into Canada from the US is in my opinion OUTRAGEOUS. Thus, ALberta Tactical Rifle is developing and tooling to produce there own actions.

With the upcoming change in the US Government time will only tell how much tougher it will get. I find it sad that our 2 countries sharing the LONGEST unprotected borders and HUGE trading partners are in this postition.

Sorry about the vent.

Probably the best people to find out from are:

http://albertatacticalrifle.com/ and ask for Rick

http://www.robertsoncomposites.com/htmlfiles800/RobertsonComposites800.html and ask for Ian. They also import Stiller actions into Canada.

http://www.hirschprecision.com/ and talk to Peter. Those are a few of the main fellows who may be able to answer those questions for you.

In regards to Benchrest in Canada it is a pretty small group. There is more F-Class and long range shooting interest then actual benchrest. The long range shooting is more along the lines of F-Class no actual Bench matches.

Guns do come up for sale occasionally. The best person I could think of for you to talk to is "Jefferson" on Benchrest Central. Give him a lookup over there and get a message or e-mail to him. He gets into everything like a dirty shirt. If you send me a e-mail I could get his contact info to you.

Good Luck
Calvin

Thanks Calvin,
I already bring in some Stocks from Robertsons The Aussie Dollar is worth about 83c Canadian and 63c US when Our dollar was up to 95US we bought barrels etc out of the US + 6 Actions and were ready for some more when everything crashed. Interested in the Barrel makers and their prices we have a few in Australia but has been cheaper and faster most time to import.
If only we could convince one of the better action makers to have actions produced in Australia under license we have the most up to date CNC machines and companies that could do the work and would be so much cheaper.
