Canada made barrels

Is anyone shooting:
-HW Precision
- KS Arms
- International barrels
barrels?
I am looking for first hand opinion.

Me and a few guys I know are shooting KS arms centerfire barrels as well as team Canada’s f-class team. Mike at KS is fantastic to deal with, and there barrels and actions are both fantastic. My buddies 6br might be one of the most accurate rifles I’ve ever seen. My 25 creed, ans 20 tac are superb. Having a 6bra spun up at the end of the month.

I shoot 22 prs as well and a large amount of the competitors I shoot against run Ibi rimfire barrels with great results. I have an ibi rimfire barrel on route and a ks rimfire barrel on route to try. Can let you know if interested but could be a bit before I see them.

i believe hw has a done well in benchrest but I know very very little about them and don’t know anyone running one. I’ll be sticking with KS for the foreseeable future unless I build a light weight hunting set up, then I’d look at ibi for carbon.

No barrel, but I received in a large shank Savage barrel
nut for a custom project, from International Barrels. It's
a beast !! Twice as long as a standard LS nut and .030"
larger in diameter. Slots don't go all the way across for
added torqueing strength. I have to open my wrench just
a bit. The larger O.D. makes for a too tight of a fit.

We run jury barrels there from Canada. I also know a few pro shooters down here that run ibi barrels in the paddock rifles with no issues

I am shooting a HWP barrel and several buddies are also for short range benchrest. Very well finished and have been extremely accurate.
If you have specific questions let me know.

I just bedded a friends rifle, he had an IBI barrel installed. I inspected it with a scope, very smooth and chatter free. I was surprised a button rifled barrel could look that good. He hasn't shot it yet but the barrel looks great.

I just gave KS a job to customize a Sako 85 Hunter to do a re-barrel to 280 Ackley Improved. I am a dyed in the wool guy who loves beautiful walnut stocks and blueing a chrome-moly barrel. I had to concede to a stainless barrel as they are more consistent with a ceracote finish to mimic a blueing finish.. I don't like the looks of the custom gunmakers synthetic stock versions of the 280 AI which appears the only option for the 280 AI although mountain hunters appreciate the weight reduction. KS will do the whole job, cut your barrel profile to fit to your stock, crown, thread, ceracote and thread/install a muzzle brake and mount/headspace the barrel install all in one stop shoppimg. I hope its worth the $$

The most accurate barrels I have ever owned from Canada over the last 40 years are the RKS cut rifled ones. Period.

What ever happened to the barrel company Gilliard? I'm sure I misspelled it, but some shot them in the 90s.
Ted Gaillard (guy-ard) is fully retired. I drive past his house every time I go to work. Last time I saw him I asked if he would sell me his barrel making equipment. It's a pipe dream of mine; 23 years ago I asked if I could work for him. He said no both times.

I have to say, since buying a borescope I have scoped plenty of high-grade barrels, Krieger, Lilja, Shilen, etc. None has been as pretty inside as the one Gaillard I've scoped.

Jonny,
If you are thinking about making barrels, start today. Otherwise, I may be too old to try one!
I have not given the IBI barrels a serious test yet but have installed some for others with no complaints. I have two I will be testing later on. One is a 6.5, one is a 6. Both are 8 inch twist. The 6.5 will likely be a Creedmoor on an RPA action, the 6 is yet to be determined.
My next serious BR barrel will be from HWP (Hugh Williamson), I think.
By the way, the closest I have ever had to a visibly and measurably perfect barrel was from Ron Smith. WH

I will stick with the RKS cut rifles, gain twist (optional) barrels out of Western Canada. He is training his grandson in the business, and says he "shows promise...".
